Ive seen this 'mod' mentioned before, though I cant find the exact thread. I think it was steptoe that said the swap could be done without raising the subframe to access. The 3.5 bar reg was said to come from a K1200RS though I think (or rather motorworks thinks) that the R1200GS (pre 2010) also uses the same 3.5 bar regulator.

The regs can be picked up quite cheap so im going to see if it makes an improvement. Questions I have are:

Is the regulator housing the same, so just the regulator can be swapped, or does the housing/pipework also need replaced or modified?
Is the pre-camhead GS 3.5 bar FPR the same as the K1200RS one used in previous examples?
Can it be done without removing half the bike?

I'll document the swap and my comments on its effect in this thread.

Cheers

The K1200RS is a straight swap - it's a faff to fit but can be done without lifting the subframe. My experience was that the bike used a load more fuel with no noticeable performance improvement so I swapped back after about 6 months. At the time I had a TFI 1030 fitted which could only add fuel rather than remove. You may have better results with a PCIII or similar.

I look forward to following your progress. Good luck:thumb

I've fitted one and John did a chip, it's a lot quicker and seems to accelerate well
