Instrument Glare

Since getting my LC a couple of years ago I have been using the sat nav as a speedo due to the amount of glare on the face of the clocks and the ridiculous grey band around the edges of the instruments which seem to make it even worse (strange how BMW have done over to plain black faced instruments on later models ).

Has anyone found either a suitable anti glare film that can be put on the clocks or the other option is looking at the instruments they can be stripped (ie the front glass removed) and perhaps add new dial fronts, a mate does graphics and reckons he can easily do a set of dials in plain black or perhaps even white .

I've done the latter on cars on a couple of occasions in the past and it makes a massive difference

You can have the speed showing on the top level of the LCD display if it makes life easier.. Its in the advanced menu options.

I suspect the dash is the same as the LED headlight, sealed and impossible to get into!

Dash isn't sealed if you look on BMW OEM they sell a replacement instrument panel glass kit (bezel,glass, rubber seal and fixing screws ) part nos 62118531208.

I realised about the speed trace on the panel but the glare of the glass is the main problem

I complained about the reflection from the instrument panel to the dealer I bought the bike from. This bloke used to be a signwriter, and he suggested applying some of a very thin, matte film that signwriters use. A bit of soapy water, apply the film using a credit-card-type tool or a squeegee, allow to dry, and it should work a treat (he reckoned, I haven't tried it),

Hardly a bargain..

anybody tried them. Personally I think the designer of the 1200 clock should be shot. from the 1150 which was a model of elegance and clarity to a clutter, confused and difficult to read mess. the km shown seems better than the UK MPH version.
Removing the constant reflections might help a little.

I agree, and with the UK clocks, trying to read the tiny compressed inner km/h scale while in Europe is well nigh impossible even without glare, and incredibly, the digital readout cannot be changed from mph to km/h or vice versa without a visit to the dealer's diagnostic computer! I've used various add-on GPS speedos which can be easily changed from mph to km/h to get around this problem, but it shouldn't be necessary. Some people use the speed indicator on the Nav display and though a bit small, this can at least be set to mph or km/h.

Are they that expensive? compared to a mobile phone screen protector which are produced in tens of thousands...

Just spotted that you get 2 for that price (I had thought a single one), so not too bad. I usually F8ck up first attempt on my phones, so need at least 2.
