I have moved this post and edited what were the two unrelated questions into separate threads.

==========

Hello everyone,

I'm planning a trip to Morocco 10-14 days in October 2024.
Will be taking the Plymouth - Santander ferry, riding through Spain etc.
It will be my first trip to Morocco so will be on road / tarmac.
I've been to Spain a few times on the bike already (Picos, Pyrenees etc).

Does anyone have any recommendations for breakdown cover in Morocco (and in my dreams that also covers Spain) ?
I know I can get breakdown cover for Spain as an add-on to my existing policy (via Green Flag I believe).
But the Morocco breakdown cover seems more elusive / harder to find.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Jules.

For breakdown cover in Morocco I have always gone with the plan that if the bike breaks down someone, for an appropriate sum of money, will take it in a pick up truck to the port. Get back to Spain and then call for assistance.

Have a scan through the assorted recommendations in this sub-section.

European breakdown cover (ie. including Spain) is pretty easily and comparatively cheaply available. Whether they all (or some) extend to include Morocco is a different matter though. I guess one of the challenges will be that there is apparently, no national breakdown service (like our AA /RAC/ Green Flag) in Morocco per-se, for an insurer to latch onto.

A Google suggests that the German ADAC company provides breakdown cover in Morocco, but the posts pre-date Brexit. Apparently, ADAC have (reportedly) stopped selling breakdown cover to UK residents.

I don’t believe there is break down cover for Morocco, at least there wasn’t when I did a 5 week trip about 3 years ago, you will be lucky to get U.K. insurance cover either, but 3rd party can be bought at the border post

Thanks, I will check ADAC as a possible supplier.

ADAC membership has not been available since Brexit, was a great loss! Unless you have EU residential status?

Sadly I do not have an EU passport... rather a UK one.
Ideally I would have both but that is in my dreams !

I am insured with Bennetts for the bike and legal cover in the UK.

If you add European breakdown cover on to the policy when you take it out, it is something like £80-90 per year.

However, if you add the European breakdown cover onto the policy part way through the year, they simply pro-rata the cost.
So if you only have 2 months left, the extra premium you need to pay is something like £15 which seems like a bargain to me.

Just thought that might be worth sharing here as it is a lot cheaper than standalone EU breakdown cover I believe.
