Insurance change

you seem to miss the point that the increase of mileage is 40% which is not trivial
I didn't miss the point, just saying what I would (or wouldn't in this case) have done.
 
£181 is what I paid fully comp for two bikes covered for a year with £6K miles on each covered. It sounds excessive for the mileage increase quoted above. They make it up as they go along I think, and recently (from around March/April time) I've noticed huge hikes in our car insurance forcing a lot of shopping around to get a decent deal. Insurance has sky rocketed in the past year for some reason.
I'm paying just under £200 annually for a 1200GS and an 1100 Monster. When I added the Monster to the policy I got hit for £154 for 3 months cover. 'Admin' charges for policy changes are ridiculous. In reality it's a click or two on the mouse for them

I added a 650 veestrom to my existing r1200rs policy in my case without any change in premium. I questioned this and they said "you can only ride one at a time!" :) I've been using M/Cycle Direct for a few years now and they don't seem to take the mick like some other companies...no admin charges for the additional bike cover.
 
My bike insurance doesn’t have a mileage limit, on any of my bikes ?
Everytime I've renewed a policy with various company's over the years it's a question they always ask which then forms part of your policy agreement.

you might want to check your documents as this is a standard underwriting question. You might be paying a premium that is higher than needed if you give your broker a realistic estimate.

It should by pretty obvious that the miles covered each year is a significant variable when calculating the risk of a claim.

So if both your bikes got stolen heaven forbid,your insurance would be happy to pay out for both ?

I will check when home from abroad
My last insurer was a stickler for mileage limits and if I remember from July, the new lot didn’t seem too bothered
Plus they were £200 cheaper for the same 7 bikes

You'd think so, but my experience is it makes little or even no difference.

I'd agree. The highest risk riders are surely those that wobble out a few times a year covering maybe 1000 miles annually. Regular riders are far more aware as they can concentrate 100% on what is going on around them rather than trying to keep their steed upright whilst trying to remember what level traction control they selected on their last ride 2 months ago
 
I declared 8000 miles for my 1300 (I am likely to be less more like 5k, I wonder if its worth me making the mileage change down?) , am paying just under £1000 :poop: Locked alarmed garage, no commuting, no pillion, ground anchor, full ncb, clean licence.

Bennetts have a £32 admin fee.

Looks like I set fire to about £200-300.

Just checked and mileage is unlimited
It’s a bike policy tailored for BMW's and also classic bikes (although I do have a 2020 bike on it)
Pillion cover is automatic too

Thanks, it did, but what a fiasco.
The judge couldn't understand how the third party insurer had allowed it to get to court, in his opinion, from the evidence presented he thought the third party were at fault, but he wanted us to try and settle out of court.

After returning to the court twice for clarification from the judge, we settled with the third party accepting the costs for the damages to my vehicle but wanting a £300 reduction on my out of pocket expenses and a £200 reduction on my vehicle recovery costs (i.e. a 2.6% reduction of the total original cost). I pointed out to my brief that the latter reduction was not in my gift, but if the insurance company agreed, then I would, under protest, agree providing it was clear that this would appear as a 'no fault' accident on my records.

My insurer initially presented them a total invoice of £19,000 for repairs. As a result of this court case, once the legal fees of the two solicitors and two barristers are added this cost will have escalated to well over £40,000!
Little wonder insurance costs are increasing!

Can you name the underwriters concerned? It would be nice to know the fuckwit to avoid and your underwriter that backed the dispute all the way to court.
 
I was with KGM. They contract out their accident assessments and initially they said the case was too close to call so would not support it. I checked TrustPilot to see what people were saying about KGM. There were a lot of complaints, but each one was answered sensibly by the KGM Claims Manager. I decided to contact him directly, he checked my evidence and phoned me back apologising saying the assessors had made a mistake and, in his opinion, my case had a good chance of winning. My car was going to be another 3 months in dock, so he arranged a hire car to be delivered that evening, which I kept until mine was repaired, and appointed solicitors once the third party insurer's refused to pay the invoice.

The third party insurers were NFU. Somebody there deserves a rocket up there arse after today's fiasco!
