Hi all. I'm about to take my bike test and the bike I really want when I've passed is the F800GS. I was wondering if anybody has any experience of insuring one as their first bike and if it cost an arm and a leg?

It's my 40th soon and my experience so far is riding 125's with CBT's for a couple of years.

Any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks

James

It won't be as expensive as you think.:thumb I got my first 1200 GS three months after passing my test, and it wasn't too horrendous IIRC.

An F800 is no different to any other bike of its capacity in that it'll have an insurance group given to it but, as with car insurance, costs depend mainly on your circumstances so your only option is to get a range of quotations. There are plenty of comparison websites out there and a lot do bike insurance. In case you don't know Bennetts and Carole Nash are the main brands of bike insurance brokers.

James,

The advice is simple. Get on the phone and ring as many brokers and insurers as YOU can. It is the only way that YOU (not me or anyone else) will find the best deal to suit YOU, living wherever it is you live, with your address, your marital status, your driving history, your garage (or ungaraged), your excess.... The list of your's goes on and on...

If you scan through all the 'Who is best?' threads you will quickly see that nobody can agree, that everyone is to some degree or another different and above all.... Those that put the most effort in to finding their own quote that suits them (and nobody else) always do best.

Enjoy your bike when you get it.

+1 for BMW Motorrad Insurance.

I'm not sure if its still running but they had a discounted offer for any of the F800 range, back in 2010.
I took them up on it and been very happy with them. That includes a written off F800 ST and they were great, got a better payout than I was expecting, when I replaced the ST with the GS, the policy was still active, so just cost £20 documentation fee.
