Wondering if anyone can help?

I am heading to South America later this year (Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay). I am guessing that I need to arrange local insurance but was wondering if it is possible to get insurance in the UK that will cover the whole trip.

Any advice much appreciated.

A quote from the Saunders site :-

"For all our Expeditions, insurance cover is difficult or impossible to
obtain within the local countries of Central and South America. Fully comprehensive motorcycle insurance as we have in the UK is not possible. However, some European insurance companies are now prepared to offer third party liability, insurance for Central and South America (also with an option of fire and theft cover), although the financial extent of this cover is quite limited. Quotes for this cover will depend on personal circumstances"

Am investigating options myself, if I find anything I'll let you know - not planning anything to do with the Globeriders, just nicked there info !

Hope that helps, Cheers ;)

You can buy it, but it's not worth the paper it's printed on. I didn't bother. If you're asked, just show them your travel insurance document, they won't know the difference.

A friend was hit off his bike in Ushuaia, ruptured spleen, friendly witnesses, local police on his side etc etc. He went and saw a solicitor who said no problem getting a favourable result. Only drawback was it's a two year wait before it gets to court, and by law you can't leave the country in between.

Nuff said.

Insurance in Argentina...

Don't know about the neighbouring countries but, insurance for a bike here in Argentina is very cheap, around GBP45.00 for a year on an '85 R80G/S registered over here but...
cover is third party only. :(

Theft or comp m/c cover as we know it in UK for is not available here and even 3rd Party cover like mine may not be available to foreign registered machines. I'll check on that but don't hold your breath!

Any cover that amounts to more than this will probably have to be arranged in UK beforehand, as has been mentioned, Horizons Unlimited is a good starting point.

HTH and good luck...
