Hi all!

Any tosser out there who:

- Rides a R1150GS
- Lives in London
- Has 0 NCB
- Had his previous bike stolen
- Has less than 1 year driving experience
- Is 28 years old

Just want to check how much he/she pays for insurance (Comprehensive of TPFT).

Following my F650GS theft last month, I’m thinking of buying a R1150GS but I don’t want to pay a fortune on the insurance… (BMW through Devitts quote me £2030 for comp. ???? ). Apparently, the fact that my previous bike was stolen doesn’t seem to affect the premium that much. Best offer I got so far is from eBike for £800 Comprehensive. If however buy a F650GS again, I will pay the same premium as before (£220) despite the theft claim...

Should I abandon the plan after all? I had a test drive last week and I felt in love…. :bow

Cheers,
Topap

I dont know about fully comp... never had it in my life.

But... with TPFT.

Insure it for the book value... in the event its stolen thats all you'll get anyway. and I dont mean the book value it had when you bought it... take into consideration the value it will have once YOU own it.

At age 28 it used to be that your insurance premium would fall.

you can get your own quote from the bmw motorad website. might be cheaper than going through a 3rd party. like devitts.

all the best

Topap - have they sorted out the insurance money on the old bike yet...? £800 sounds reasonable from e-bike considering your circumstances...

Don’t really understand the difference between Comprehensive and TPFT either…

I had the “Comprehensive” one with my previous bike, which was stolen two weeks ago. NIG evaluated for £2600 less my £250 excess, which I’ve accepted and now I’m waiting for the cheque. I have some savings… so I think I’ll be able to go for the 1150. :bounce1

Everything with the insurance went fine so far.
I can’t imagine what would have been different if a had the TPFT insurance… ???

 Bl**dy hell there is some advantage to being alittle older, living in the sticks and riding an older bike then. £95 TPFT :D

So what's new from your bike then Nadeem?
They settled the repair bill on the bike and I've now traded it in for a new one...

Sorted

This morning I realised that - technically - I’m still insured with BMW, although my bike was stolen.

I remembered BMW’s note on their website:
“NB: Additional BMW motorcycles can be included on a BMW Motorrad Insurance policy for a special premium of only £10.50 (inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax at the prevailing rate), subject to the full insurance premium being paid on the highest rated BMW motorcycle”

Gave them a call and ta-da: With £480.5 I can transfer my comprehensive insurance to the R1150GS...

Now, the only thing left is actually by the bike. I shall post a note on the Sale&Wanted very soon then…

See you later! :thumb
