Sorting the insurance today I was asked about any mods on the bike I'm collecting tomorrow.

I mentioned the pipe and chip and was asked if it had a kite mark, I said I'd check. I was informed I wouldn't be covered if it didn't.

It's a laser system, which I don't believe does have the mark.

I'm with BMW insurance.

Have others been in this position and what did they do?

I'm not so worried about the performance increase that I'm willing to invalidate my insurance, but if anyone knows of any insurers who are not so fussy, I'd be interested.

Cheers.

I'd ring them again. I've been with BMW Ins for 3 years and have found that the way you couch the information you give is very important. I've currently got:

a Y piece - "It's to allow me to use the bike in areas where I can't get unleaded fuel" (Actually true).

a Techlusion 259 - "It's to cure the surging" (Actually also true).

I also used to have a Remus can - "Bought it secondhand, but it doesn't say 'for race use only' anywhere on it - Remus tell me that all their race cans have this marked on them"

BMW allowed all these at no extra premium, although they had to go and check with their underwriters for the Remus - I've since removed it anyway.

I fax a letter detailing all of the mods to my bike to them each year, updated when I change some accessory, so that there's never any misunderstanding - as misunderstandings generally lead to a withdrawal of cover...

Mike:)
