My insurance on the MY00 R1150 GS was due on the 14th and I got a quote from Carolnash in the post a few weeks ago for €950 approx fully comp.

I didn't contact them as I thought this was steep and was goin to look else where but they rang and asked if I was going to take the new quote. I told them no that I was going to go else where.

The lad on the phone checked my details again and other then now having a one year no claims bonus nothing has changed that they'd look at.

I info'd them that it was now alarmed but it wasn't one that they have listed and that I had done the Bike Safe course but again they didn't want to know so I said I would go for a company that did look at these for a discount.

The lad left me on hold for a while and came back with a quote of €590 so I excepted and added insurance for my bike kit for an extra €40 euro. Helmet, gloves suit ect covered for up to €1200.

So total for this years quote was €630. Big difference from the first quote.

Delighted. :clap

Don't want to offend you nor anyone with a 10 year old bike but do you think it is really necessary to go fully comp.
My GS is 02 and I just have it TPF&T with 2 years NCB this year with CN I paid €440 and that includes cover for my Zumo panniers and Autocom

The Insurance companies in Ireland are a bunch of feckin cowboys
Arseholes the lot of them...
Its the bloody same each year, they give you a price picked from
the high clouds and then pretend to be doing you a favour by knocking
it down... them there clowns in Dáil should look into this legal shafting
of the Irish citzens, thats if there not too busy do other things

Not offended at all mate. I wouldn't have the money to replace it if it was nicked and it's still worth around €3500 to €4000 I would imagine, Could be off the mark there but even if it was only worth €2500 I'd still have it fully comp in the area I live in.

Just to point out to I have only got back to biking last year so I only have a ears no claims. Last year it cost me €1100 to cover the bike. So I thik its quite a good reduction. Other companies I looked at still wouldn't touch me ever with the Bike safe course Done (which they say they give discount for) and my car insured with them already.

You would still be covered if your bike is stolen if you opt for Third Party Fire & Theft.
The only thing you get for Fully comp. is that if you hit someone and its your fault and your bike is totalled, your bike is covered for the repairs.
