So I am in the lucky position of being able to slide a second BMW bike into the garage but with it comes the prospect of endless hours trying to work out how to get the best deal on insurance! The GS is insured through Cornmarket. Haven’t had a bike claim since 2008 but did have a car claim in 2024. NCB insured in both cases.

Is it too much to hope someone might take pity on me and reflect my bike No Claims in a second policy? I’m yet to talk to Cornmarket but thought I consult the oracle(s) first!

Help please?

Last year I bought a second BMW bike - as it turned out, BMW themselves offered me by far the best price for a two bike policy
🤷‍♂️

I cancelled the 2 month old single bike policy I had running and went with them.

I'd avoid multi bike policies and take the hit; start to build up a second set of no claims.

There are so few good multi policies around that you'll be locked into un-competitive quotes for ever.

I'm in one at the moment, and it's going to be expensive to get out of.

generally the NCB you have will not go towards a second policy as you are already 'using' it.
insuring the NCB also does not usually stop your policy increasing after a collision....

I have both of mine insured through a Honda policy (one is a ST1300 Combo). however before I did that some companies did offer an 'introductory discount' which almost mirrored my NCB

Starting a policy with no NCB might also not be as bad as you think.

I insure an older GSA, an HP2S and a DRZ400 on a single policy. The GS, despite the age and low value, makes things tricky as it triggers the insurers' antennas.
Couple of years ago I had to split the bikes on two separate policies and I placed the GS and the DRZ on their own, brand new, policy. The cost wasn't terribly higher than expected, overall I spent roughly the same as with a multipolicy.

I just went back to multipolicy just for the ease (!) of managing one contract. But for a couple of bikes, as above, might make sense to keep the two NCBs.

I concur. I have 3 bikes, insured them all separately then moved to a multi bike policy and lost my NCB on 2 of my bikes.
After a few years the cost of the multi bike policy was getting ridiculous so I've moved back to individual policies and started building up my NCB for the other bikes again, insha'Allah.

As above.

I had multi bikes for years but agree that there is little competition.

I’d build up separate policies 100 per cent

I insured a new bike for which I didn’t have ncb, Bemoto mirrored my existing ncb

Bennetts have been extremely good at insuring my two bikes on a multi-policy for approximately the same price as it was for just one of them. GL

Ill swear they just pluck figures out of the air for shits and giggles , and to see if anyone is daft enough to pay

Example

2011 GS, 11 years NCB offroad with 3 security devices £300

Add a 2021 Goldwing bagger £15k as above = £650

Change the wing for a 2022 model £18K = £1700

How do they come up with a figure like that ??

And you cant talk to them , all you get is level 1 call handlers , the underwriters hide away , making everything go through more layers !!!

they don't like it when the combined value edges towards 20k, hence why I had 2 separate policies for the R1200RS & Triumph Exploer (then S1000XR)

If you want to speak to someone, have you tried a proper broker like Howden who have actual shops?

Bizarre today........

Tri 1200 GT Ex.

Last year 446 quid, (after extensive search).

Renewal 270 quid

Phone up and haggle 229 quid.

Bikes worth say 1500 less and I'm a year older and wiser / stupider.

How the fuck does that work......

The algorithms have worked in your favour! Last year, both my cars and my GS went down! One car quite a lot! I thought it best not to ask too many questions!

I found the insurance on a Rocket 3 similar to yours was very cheap.
About half the price of a R1250GS.
