Insuring a second bike!

I'd avoid multi bike policies and take the hit; start to build up a second set of no claims.

There are so few good multi policies around that you'll be locked into un-competitive quotes for ever.

I'm in one at the moment, and it's going to be expensive to get out of.
Agree, I got caught out with a multi bike policy. Lost my full no claims on the second bike, now having to built it up again.

Just about given up trying to insure the wing as a second bike FFS

quotes at £500 for a multibike policy, suddenly jump to over £1100 when you try to confirm

Doing it as the GS solo & the wing solo is a fucking joke - £1100 compulsary excess on the GS jof on mofo

Now there suggesting i contact BIBA to find an insurer, why, its not fucking difficult stop taking the piss !

Okay, well I have totally failed to find any insurer that will give me an 'credit' for my current 18 years NCB on my other bike - except my current insurer. The GS is insured with Cornmarket and the best solution they have come up with is to transfer my current GS policy to the new bike and then take out a new policy on the GS. The new premium for the GS is more expensive than when I insured it last autumn but the total price for both bikes is better than anything else I can find. Part of the reason for this is they will 'reflect' 9 years NCB in the new policy.

In terms of pounds, shillings and pence, it's going to cost me £350 (give or take a few pence) for both bikes. I cannot find anything else at that sort of level. It still seems expensive but it still remains the best. Bemoto wouldn't even quote.

To put a bit more perspective to this: Aged 66 and in full time employment. Chartered Surveyor. Last motorbike claim was 2008 (£800). A car claim in 2024 in a my fault accident - value of claim c.£10,000. SP50 in 2023 - 3 points and £100 fine. Live in rural Worcestershire. Bike garaged. IAM pass.

Starting with your existing insurer (to give a base price) then shopping around (ie. making an effort) established your ‘best deal’. It’s always the same story…. Shop around…. Until you (and not anyone else) finds your best deal.

Dull? Probably yes, but so are endless posts looking for the same solution. Remember, the Lord helps those, who help themselves.

…car claim in 2024 in a my fault accident - value of claim c.£10,000

No doubt your (possibly) ‘rip off’ premium suddenly looked very good value :D

This, coupled to an SP50, maybe indicates a return to the IAM for a refund might be in order :augie :beerjug:

So its possible to get a quote for the wing using my 11 years ncb , which isn't a to bad figure - still way more than the GS

But restarting the GS on 0 NCB is a bitter pill to swallow , and fecking expensive

might have to do some shopping around for that one

But what i dont get is, i can insure both separately, yet ask them to be combined, and they go to stupidsville to price it up ?

Or is it time to jump ship and try something new ? which will be a big wrench !

might have to do some shopping around

You are a mug if you don’t.

Every indication on this forum is that:

A. Shopping around saves money, more often than not. Even if it doesn’t at least you’ll know you’ve tried.

B. Insurance is a ‘rip off’ right up until it’s your best and possibly only friend.

C. It (despite all the “My mate says….” posts) does pay, very reliably and most often promptly.

D. Comparisons between individuals are all but meaningless. There is no single reliable benchmark.
