Interchangeability & cleaning products

Any one know if a seat from a 2004 GS will fit a 2010 GS. Thought about replacing my red anniversary model seat with a standard one to protect it over the winter.
On the subject of interchangeabilty the engine bars I took off my 08 GS don't fit my new one, by about 1cm have BMW made some discreet changes?

My dealer advised me not to use Muck Off as for some reason it doesn't like BMW's, ACF 50 seems all the rage but needs to be applied to a clean bike which mine ain't. I hope to use it through the winter so I'll be using a cold hose on it every time I get home to rid it of any salt I pick up.

Is there a favourite out there used by GS owners?

I can't think of any reason why an 04 seat will not fit a 2010 bike but surely unless you already have a spare seat why bother if all you want to do is just to keep the original clean?

I use Muc-Off on my GSA and have never had an issue. I would imagine if you left it on there too long (especially on the black rimmed wheels) then there could be a problem but the answer is not to leave it on there too long. I usually hose the bike off so it is wet. Spray on the Muc-Off using the hand spray bottle is comes in. Wash it all off with a pressure washer. Stand on the sidestand then pull the bike up on to its side to allow the excess water to drain off then spray the bike all over with Scottoiler FS365. The whole process start to finish takes no longer than 30 minutes

seat should fit, I think all the seats fit all the models. Its a different engine on the 2010 so thats probably why the bars dont fit. Muck off contains acid so if BMW get the slightest whiff of it being used they you pull any corrosion warranty. SDOC 100 is a good cleaner, as for ACF 50 it works great. Clean your bike apply it and leave it for the winter. No messing about and no corrosion. If you use your bike through the winter and only use a cold hose then you will get corrosion. No point complaining on here about it either as you will most likely just get raged about how you didnt protect your bike so what do you expect.

You really shouldn't be riding your bike through the winter without prepping it first unless you like rusty bikes?

I've not used ACF50 as I'm not keen on the apply and forget mindset you need to be in to use it though I do understand and appreciate just how good the stuff is

Personally speaking FS365 works best for me as I like clean bikes and don't mind getting out the pressure washer every so often and regularly re-applying it

If I were you and as you've already admitted your bike is often dirty I'd book it in with one of the many companies that now do cleaning and ACF50 applications

Mate, it's a feckin seat and won't rot under your arse

SDOC 100 is a great cleaner and much better tha Muc Off IMHO. I normally use liberal doses of WD40 through the winter with no problems

Just for the record, the oils contained in leathers trash the red seats & I ain't wearing my jeans all through the winter; as I've spent my lifes savings on this GS I thought I may as well look after it.

The seats from all modelyears are interchangeable, since the fittings are the same.
However, the seats from the first production series ('04-'07) are different in shape from those on MU and TU models (from '08 onwards). The first seats are 'flatter', the latter are a bit 'higher' in the middle. This means different height and a different feel to your bum.

Scotoil F365

Checkout Scotoil F365.

I brought 5 ltrs and use a manual pump spray bottle as an applicator. Best used on a just washed bike to drive out the water and it leaves an anti-corrosive film which lasts for ages. Also use it after a winter run to neutralise the road salt. Fantastic stuff and much prefer it to the ACF50 aerosol.

I have used muc-off but now use Fuch-off or snow foam. Haven't noticed any detrimental problems using either and can only think that BMW might believe it could somehow damage the quality of finish or let corrosion in

As I use my GSA all year no matter what, I have a routine with the stuff. I have a bottle at home and one at work. After the 10 mile commute it gets a good dose, only takes a couple of minutes twice a day. Gets a decent wash when it's filthy, that's about it.

2 years, coming up on 30,000m now heading into harsh winter number 3 and the only corrosion is on the front disc mounts where I avoid spraying the stuff.

Have just invested in another couple of gallon at heine gerike.
