IMO the scala rider is a great peice of kit, if you search on here there is quite alot of talk about it, there customer service is as good as garmin. some say it doesnt like rain. i never had a problem, my model was the teamset great for sharing a music/phone.:thumb2

I have no experience of the Scala so cannot comment, but what I would say is that I went the Autocom route and have never looked back.

OK they are not perfect IMHO but everything I have ever tried to do has always worked, it seems that anything you want to connect to it can always be done because they are so popular and have been around so long that everyone makes some kind of connection kit.

I bought a new helmet camera the other day and it turns out that there is a lead that the camera manufacturer makes to record audio straight from the Automcom.

As I say, the Scala might be superb, I don't know, but I do know that I would change from Autocom personally.

[Edit]. BTW, you might get more responses in the Bike Communications section.

Another vote for Autocom here. :thumb2

OK, not as sexy as some of the BlueTooth gear but very reliable, easy to install and operate. Good support too from GSRich on UKGSer and / or by phone or visit to HQ (make an appointment).

I have had it for years, used in all sorts of conditions without any significant problems that could not be fixed or mended. The easiest route is install it on the bike and in your helmet and then forget about it, rather than keep fiddling to 'improve'.

Good kit and good people.

if you want low cost the scala is the way to go.. it has a few advantages/ disadvantages that you have to way up the Scala
on the plus side it's bluetooth so phone and the likes of the Zumo will work with no connections the down side is it not quite as good of sound as the Autocom.
Battery life is around 7 hours give or take so in long trips you need to allow recharging time which can be done from a 12v or mains chargers.

The Autocom has the best sound but you have to put up with leads and if you're like me sometime you forget you are still connected when you get off the bike:eek and if you are not using the autocom the leads can be annoying unless you put some sort of clip to hold it on the helmet.

The scala rider you can get for about £80 new the new basic autocom for about £150 plus £25 for a mounting kit... but you can find that you can easily spend the same again to get leads and filters and connecting devices.the lead to connect the zumo so you can use the phone as well is £43

The autocom is the best sound but if costs come into it to the Scala seems like a good deal too and no matter what anyone says at the end of the day you're on a loud bike so you are never going to get the hifi sound you get at home
If you are going to use the bike a lot i'd go down the autocom route if you can justify the price after the extras that are usually needed.
