OK you lot out there, Autocom or Starcom?

Pros and Cons.

Value for money.

Ease of installation (although I'll probably put it in the sidecar with the 2610 - but might still put both on the GS)

Anything else I've forgotten but should know.

Thanking you all in advance for the myriad of replies.

Lee, you may want to look at www.intaride.com. I have some of their radio kit, and so far it has worked extremely well. They are now doing intercom systems, and if the performance of the radio kit in my experience is anything to go by, it is well worth a look. The prices are very good as well. I dunno if anyone else has used them, but my own experince is only good, so far.

For wot its worth

Autocom

Look no further. I have an autocom pro 7 on my Pan awhich is wired in it is superb. Also They are so helpful at Autocom and will fit it for free. I also use one of their lower priced systems on my other bikes which just uses battery power.
I have been using these for around 2 years now, trouble free and the phone works brilliant at even 100 mph plus and radio 2 is crystal clear......Brilliant value for money.............oh and if you wait for the NEC show I bet they are even better value for \money !!!!!

I know these are not Autocom or Starcom but I can recommend Motorola PMR440 Talkabout radios with headsets from maplins. Can use on or off the bike, bike to bike, car to car, ground to air, ship to shore, whoa there. Versatile they are and at £130 for the full set they are cheap too. No wiring either. Batteries last for ages. I am very happy with mine. :thumb
Just found a picture and these ones are £69.99 a pair plus £60 for the headsets.

Intaride

As noted above, don't dismiss Intaride, new to this market but their radios are good bits of kit. I've yet to fully install the system but initial results are very good, and unlike Autocom they come with all the leads included for half the price !

Starcom

Very happy with the Starcom kit. Dont forget that they give a UK GS Club discount as well!
Prefer the starcom intercom to the autocom ...speech a lot more natural..fully duplex.

I did a short write up somewhere on the site ...do a search.

Totally agree with you Lukate, PMR is brill. Group of us use them up here.
I use an Alan456R radio from Maplins with one of their headsets fitted into my Shuberth.
Breaks down a bit at speed, but I don't want to listen to to much chit chat out of town.

I've never tried Starcom, but have heard good things.

Autocom are good but the connectors are tiny and prone to damage. That said, this is what I have and haven't had too many problems with it.

Sonic do excellent radios (which I have also used) and they have much better connectors. These guys fit out all the police bikes so you know it's got to be good! I only found out about them after I bought my Autocom, but I think I would have given them serious consideration if I'd known about them.

Connectors???? the ones on my autocom are built like a tank :D is yours the old 5 pin connector?

Thank you one and all for your input.

So unless someone can tell me differently, then it's still only a choice between Autocom and Starcom as none of the other suggestions seem to be able to handle the GPS input.

And at the moment, Starcom seem to be winning as they can allow for a three-way hook-up which might prove useful if I end up fully loaded (grandkids are rapidly becoming big enough to be foisted off onto grandparents in the near future  )

Might have a chat to Autocom at the NEC (if I can find someone who knows what they are selling as opposed to the numpties they wheel in just to sell at shows :) )

No, I have the 6 pin version but the pins are really easy to bend if you don't line them up properly. Once bent you can straighten them but you never get the same amount of contact back and sometimes some interference.

If you use them a lot the outer rubber sometimes slips and lining up the ridge doesn't work and can cause the pin damage.

The sonic ones are a bit like the old style Jack plugs in HiFi s (showing my age). Good old fashioned solid connection! You'd need pliers to bend them :D

I have just ordered a Starcom to replace the Autocom.

The connectors have failed and it has always picked up engine noise, dissatisfied with it.

I will be sending it back to them to get the connectors sorted. I may then fit it to the wifes Sidcar outit.
