intercoms - What should I be expect?

No Autocom problems here, either. Intercom, phone (bluetoothed), iPad Nano, satnav, bike-to-bike radio all work fine.

I had mine installed by Autocom (including the helmet gear). Well worth the money as the installation is not simple plug-and-play stuff. But you knew that :) !

For ease ,simplicity[no dangly wires ] why not get a good Bluetooth system.. My personal choice is Senna ,but there is also Scala and a couple of others. Good reviews can be seen on 'Web Bike World..

Exchange for having to recharge the battery and having limited comms bike to bike (max three riders all using the same system) :D

Though this is an interesting addition I hadn't seen before.

Agreed this is probably the ultimate way to go,Interide have promised this for years, particulary if you have a good radio set up . The sena allows 4 people to converse though this is a little convulated in operation. For 2 riders or rider and pillion its hard to beat bluetooth for convience and with a range in excess of 500m ,clear sight, its more than enough for 2 riders 99% of the time.. Having had both systems I would never go back to a hard wired system .. On a full days ride ,talking for most of the time the batteries have not given out and a 3 hr evening charge is enough to renew,..Each to his own preferance,,,but I am vey impressed with the Sena [Partic at the price of my US imported ones... appx£190 a pair]

Right, I'm back for an update.
Finally got around to calling Techstar. spoke to a nice chap called Paul. He agreed I'd been very unlucky. I got 2 of a bad batch of the Autocoms just as the original company went under.
After some haggling, he agreed to knock off £30 from a new SuperPro ie 10%, if I send in my old unit (Starcom1).
I guess thats a fair offer, it still leaves me a fair few quid out of pocket on the money - I got for the starcom and extra headset for a years use, but then the defective autocom was when autocom weren't part of them.
On the other hand I think I've spent over £200 on the Starcom and there's one going for £50 second hand with days to go...

whist it seems a bit ludite to stick with wires, I fairly regularly do 5 hours on the bike in a day listening to the radio or an ipod, I can't see a battery/wireless system coping?

Most of the Bluetooth headsets will go for more than 5 hours. I used to get 8from my Scala Q2's and am getting 10 from my G4. Agreed you do have to remember to recharge them though.

Just to confirm - is that 5 hours of continuous music with enough volume to get through ear plugs?

I don't wear earplugs so can't comment on the volume, but I either have it connected via Bluetooth to my Zumo 550 for GPS/MP3 or a standard MP3 player via cable and the battery life seems as quoted although I have never bothered to time it. I just turn it on at the start of the day, recharge at the end and it has never ran out of juice yet. As you wear ear plugs the volume issue is something you will need to look into - I have a very quiet Schubert S1Pro so don't need them.

You should be fine with the Superpro, my old Active-Rider gave good music volume up tot a ton (with Earplugs fitted) and the Superpro should be even better, getting first ride out with mine tomorrow so should be able to confirm.
