Interesting and unexpected side effect of fitting an aftermarket (Euro 3) end can to my 1250...
The engine is instantly and noticeably smoother and less vibey!!

All vibrations through the pegs have disappeared and the whole engine just feels smoother and more willing to spin up.
There wasn't anything wrong with it before, but the difference is pretty noticeable.
I have not changed anything else and have not had any kind of tuning / remapping work done.

Tried two different cans (I know, I should not be left alone with computers and beer) and both have the same effect.
A brand new GPR and a user Leo Vince were both bought for purely aesthetic and aural improvements, and both delivered this interesting (and most welcome) side effect.

Weird for sure, and I wondered if anyone else noticed the same thing?

Soon for sale at inflated prices Euro 3 cans, you may have started the new magic goldrush.......:thumb2:thumb2:bow:bow but more seriously, just maybe BMW have strangled something in the mufflers for new Euro 5 emissions..........:nenau:nenau

Haha - good point well made. :rob

Maybe my lack of self control in buying two may turn out to be a blessing in disguise :aidan

Many had already kept their Euro 3 end cans Akras and fitted them on the bike from new, so they probably feel bike is smooth from day one, I know someone who will be interested with this thread.....:D

I thought the 1250 was the most smooth thing ever by previous reports.. and you've made it even smoother :bow

Have you put the original exhaust back on since trying the new ones?

Nope, and TBH I am probably not going to bother.

I felt the difference immediately - within a mile of starting off with the first of the new cans fitted - so no doubting the reason for the change.

I am just wondering if the original can wasn't bolted up tight enough so it would cause a lot more vibration.

No matter, you're happy so job done.

Valid point, actually would be worth testing original can, Euro 3 just gone down in value..............:D

Interesting - when I got my 1250 I thought it had a tad more vibration through the seat and pegs than the 1200. Vibes have now gone. Maybe it smoothed out as it got run in, but I also changed my exhaust. I initially fitted the low level exhaust from my 1200 which is from the RT model, but then replaced that with a GS exhaust that I modified and which I believe came from a 2015 bike. In both cases I use a rubber mount to attach the extended exhaust hanger bracket needed for the new lower exhaust position. Since vibes have gone, there may be something different about the standard 1250 exhaust, and/or how it mounts, which transmits more vibration to the bike. Only issue with the modified GS exhaust it that it seems a lot noisier than either the original 1250 exhaust or the RT one.

Modern silencers are heavy bastards with lots of frantic pulses going through them, how do they affect vibration?

Euro3 HP Akra louder, bassy, and loves percussive crackling on the 1250... high frequency vibes gone.

I suppose the exhaust bracket which bolts to the rear subframe could transmit vibration to a part of the frame which is not so rigid as the main sections. It could also be that the exhaust system on the 1250, due to its different design and shape, may have a different resonant frequency which maybe maximises vibration in a different and more noticeable frequency range than the 1200 system.

Ahh - got you now - but that wasn't it, as I had already checked this (and all the other fixings) before buying SW Motech pegs (with rubber inserts) instead of the Rallye ones my bike came with.

So Smogbob - anything I have gained with the increased value of my Euro 3 can has been wiped out by the loss on the footpegs I probably don't need now! :blast

Having fit a can to mine, i can relate.
bike feels great and makes all the right noises

I think its more that the exhaust gas now flows free , rather than baffled in the standard can , which causes the vibes as its holding the gases rather than the aftermarket that flows the gas.

if its the same or similar to the 2015 silencer, the exhaust enters the can.. down a tube and hits the end stop, and is then forced sideways through the holes in the side walls and out through the silenced area in the main box... when I was messing with silencers i took the end out of this pipe to let it flow better, but instead of hitting the pipe end, it then hit the silencer back plate and I could tell it had much more vibration. So in comparison with a straight through silenced tube, the OE will for sure have more vibes always...,

That was my thoughts stick also, they muffled the muffler................:D
