Just downloaded the ford database to my computer last Friday then put the Cumbria section onto the satnav.
Saturday morning I decided on a 60 mile round trip NW of Carlisle taking in 5 fords. (Never done this before). Got to first one, water about 12 inches deep, bottom was paved but with slippery cobbles. Well I'm here now, lets go for it. Halfway across it starts to get deeper and I start to get worried, I'm on my own in the middle of nowhere after all. However, the old 1150 just kept going no problem and out the other side. The next 4 were no problem, all being concrete floored. feeling pleased with myself I headed home, doing about 35 down some very narrow roads when a suicidal deer jumped in front of me. No chance to do anything, just straight over the top of it. I've now got a Roe doe lying dead in the road! No damage to the bike at all, save a smattering of blood and hair. So I bundled the deer up, strapped it to the back of the bike and headed home for roast venison, feeling very lucky to have escaped as I did. An interesting mornings work!
