During a recent visit to to Eifel, I took in a tour of IP Vogelsang. This was a former Nazi "barracks" where young men in their 20's were being trained as officals to resettle and administrate the countries that were being conquered. It was mothballed in 1939 but the setting is worth a quick stop. Public tours are in German only but the indoor exhibits can be visited with English guidebooks.
In the Sauerland I rode to the Eder Dam, which I'm sure hundreds have done already. But I had a excellent lunch stop at Schloss Waldeck (free to enter but a modest charge for the main car park although one can go a little further and park on verge for nowt) and enjoyed a stunning view over the entire lake with the dam in the distance. When one sees the layout from above, one realises what a difficult job those pilots had.
I hope the above helps someone with ideas......
I'll take this opportunity to thank Wapping for the great job that he does in the Travel section.
