Hi All,

Got a slight problem with my BMW Zumo 550.

I have it mounted onto me 1200GSA, hard wired into the back of the socket under he seat, bluetoothed to my phone and connected to my Autocom.

All works fine until I start the bike, then I get severe interference through the speakers, I assuming from the bike electrics. :(

Do I need to put an inline suppressor or something to stop it?

Thanks peeps.

is the autocom connection via Bluetooth or hard wired? Autocom do a specific suppressed connector.... dunno the part no at the moment though if afraid

This part is what you'd need to be fully hard-wired and interference free (if you have a pre 2005 Autocom there's an alternative lead, see bottom of that page). If you just want music and navigation prompts from the Zumo then you can get away with the isolated stereo music lead.

To check, disconnect your Zumo from the bike power, running off it's internal battery, and see if the interference goes away. If it does then the cable above should solve your problem.

The issue sounds like Ground Loop Interference (GLI) that you get when you're powering two audio devices from the bike. By running the Zumo off its battery, for the above test, you're eliminating that aspect.

If you still have interference then you need to look at the routing of your cables.

I'm not sure which Autocom unit you have but if it's pre 2009 then at the end of the month there's a new A2DP Bluetooth module out that will work fully with the Zumo.

The Autocom is hard wired and works perfectly if conneced direct into my ipod, it's just when I use the Zumo there's an issue.

I will go to the chainspeed website and order what I need

Thanks very much, fab forum!!!!

I assume the ipod is isn't powered from the bike? That'll be GLI then :thumb2

BTW; The new A2DP BT module from Autocom will work with the newer (2009 and on) Autocoms, it's just there's already an A2DP BT module in the range for those. The new one will probably replace those though.

Mike from Motorcycle adventure posted here that all wiring from zumo to autocom needed to be run down the left hand side of the tank to avoid interference. All mine is and no problems encountered.
Have a look where your wires are run.
Mike
