Hello,

I’m currently experiencing some intermittent headlight loss problems with lampF faults.

It’s been intermittent for a couple of weeks but normally ignition off will reset and clear this.

However tonight when riding home from work LampF fault appeared ok the dash and dipped beam was gone. Pulled over and tried ignition reset. As soon as I started the bike again the dipped beam stayed on for about 3 seconds then faulted again.

Tried my main beam. Same thing. Stayed on for 3 seconds then bailed out.

Managed to ride home with my Aux lights as fortunately the roads are well lit.

I have disconnected the lights (LED units i have had fitted for approx 9
Months with no other concerns, can’t remember the brand but they were about £65 each. Not that helps a lot)

I still get the LampF faults even when I disconnect the plug that the bulb would normally go in, and have also tried the same with the high beam.

Currently plugged into an Oxford oximiser to see if the battery is on the way out which is what I am suspecting. I have a new Motobatt getting delivered tomorrow.

Any thoughts/suggestions or anything else I can check.

I think I read somewhere that if the battery drops below 10v when cranking that it is goosed.

I'm guessing you have an early bike 05-07

LampF is a generic lamp failure warning -

Later bikes got the addition of LampR to show which end of the bike the failure was.

I had lampf on my 06 and after changing both the front bulbs, was surprised to still see the message on the kombi

Turns out it was my tail light !

One of the filaments had blown, its a combined brake / tail light

But as the bike has clever sparkery it dims the power to the remaining filament by 50% so you get a tail lamp, and then when you brake, it

increases the power to 100% so giving you brake/ tail functions

A failure/ partial failure / intermittant failure will all trip the LampF function

When i changed the sidelight to LED , it kept giving lampF due to the resisitor chips failing - i changed it back to incandescant

If as you say, have LED healamps and its going out after 3 mins until you replace the failed items you will still get LampF

If you want LED , there around £30 for a set on fleebay - just be aware they need to have adequate cooling, or they will overheat / shutdown / fail

Id whack a set of incandescant bulbs in the dip / main and see if the Lampf message goes -

If it does then the lLed units sound like the problem - if not you have another, bulb / bulb holder/ or wiring to a bolb holder failing

rear lamp holder is a top culprit

Hello. Thanks for the reply. Should have said it’s a 2012 TC GSA.

It’s definielt from the front as is indicating the LampF.

Has the bike on charge over night on optimate and when I started it this morning the light is staying on for about 20 seconds now before switching off.

Personally, I can't be bothered to fiddle with LED/HID retrofit, given the potential for hassle & MOT issues, but each to their own.

If the light needs a helping hand I usually fit Osram Night Racers & always use Powerbulbs to avoid the chance of getting landed with a fake.

However, if you have good quality properly cooled LEDs that fit without bodgery & are content to continue, you may need to consider ............. https://www.powerbulbs.com/store/category/canbus-control-units.

No problems with Mot. Went straight through 3 weeks ago with them fitted.

Anyway after several hours of fiddling about. Battery changed for new, voltage testing at all light connections. Found that both of the LeD had failed at the same time. Replaced with 2 new osram noghtbreaker H7 and all ok.

Not sure why both LED’s failed at the same time.
