A little bit of everywhere...
My 2009 model seems to have an intermittent start up problem. Turn the ignition key and hit the motor - nothing, not even a whirr or click. Try again? Starts up and no problems.

Any ideas?

It is intermittent, not sure if its battery (original battery, on optimate) or coils?

I would hate to get stuck in the wilds of the Booths carpark (we don't have many Tescos up here...)

Thanks in advance

I have had similar thing for a couple of years. Occasionally it will just give a click but then second attempt will start fine. It has never failed to start. I have checked pretty much everything and have never found anything amiss. Have a jumper cable made up just in case but have never needed it (yet!).

I had a metal plate inside the starter itself which came loose & would short the starter.
Symptoms sound just like yours.

Tim, do you mean that it's still on the original from 2009 ? If its on an Optimate, it will do an assessment of the state of the battery, which can be a good indicator as to what going on. It tells you how to interpret the info in the manual.

My battery has just died, and that's on a 2015, it only lasted 3 years and 4 months. I would suspect a 9 year old battery as being the culprit.

Thanks,

I will have a look around for anything loose on the wring side and will probably plump for a new battery anyway - I guess its about time!
