Well I never. Hiring a car in Morocco I was informed via the small print, which I alway read, that I cannot hire without one!
Unless of course I pay €100 and which case everything is fine, even though I still don’t get a permit!!!

They are now harder to get, no longer available at the Post Office, only available via a business that has Paypoint, used to walk down the road to get one but now a 20 mile round trip into Exeter which has only one place to get one, a Costcutter on a housing estate or one place in Torquay, not exactly convenient anymore and cash only at the one I went to, luckily they had a cash machine that charges you to get at your own money!

Al.

That's an arse.
I've often carried one, but only used it once. Riding enthusiastically miles from anywhere in Albania, Albanian Plod leapt out from behind a rock and attempted to extort money for speeding. Once he had my driving licence in his hand, he thought he was golden for a fat payout. He must have been bitterly disappointed when I exited stage left at some pace, leaving him with my worthless IDP.

Nine trips to morocco plus hiring a car, being stopped by the police for speeding, buying insurance, crossing borders and never been asked for an IDP.
