Do you advise, or will I need, an International Driving Permit when travelling in Morocco?

Cheers
Steve

We took them ...

... and I'm still waiting for some git to ask me for it !

None of the coppers I've ever been nicked by over there have ever asked for one :blast
:augie

PS I would take one if it was on old fashioned paper jobbie, but they're very used to dealing with the Euro stylee pink photo card licenses :)

I've always found they look nice and official, you can get several without too much bother and so can afford to loose one if it seems a good thing to do.:augie

not sure about Morocco but it's a handy thing to have in other places

The chances are you'd confuse the feck out of the person if you showed them an international driving permit and it'll cause you to be kept for a lot longer while they check what the feck to do with it. Honestly.

I asked our licencing dept whether I needed one for Morocco and they said yes. I then asked a friend who often studies Arabic in Fes and he said it was not really necessary. So I suppose its up to the individual. I think mine cost twenty quid, which is not a lot to splash out on for the sake of peace of mind.
I was told that you are supposed to take your normal licence with you when using an international driving licence to corroborate the information.
My international licence came in loads of different languages including Arabic, so it should be quite simple to whoever you have to present it to.

It's not the language, it's how familier they are with the paperwork that they're presented with. I've seen it when they've been presented with officail fisches that they'd never seen before, and i just had a passport that they had seen. Away i went after two minutes while the officials had to find out from a superior what the hell the fisches were before letting the rest go , oh how i laughed.

For instance, getting a van through the customs at ceuta into marocco with no log book or other vehicle paperwork, except a vehicle tax reminder from three years previous. Load of bullshite and away you go :augie:D
