I'd like to ask the IT boffins here which is the best PAYG deal to have?
I already have a 3 dongle so SIM only
Ideally need 5GB a month data allowance
Pref. without contract
which would you recommend and why?
thank you

Although the question is which dongle is best, the original poster says he has a 3 dongle, and is asking about the best deal available.

On which front, I've found the three network to offer good data speeds, but slightly poorer coverage. They do non-contract pay as you go in all sorts of flavours.

I have a 3 dongle that I use when visiting the UK. Its 15# for 3 gig and 25# for 7. Only thing is that if you don't use the allowance in the month, then its lost.
As for coverage, I'm usually in the South of England, and coverage is very good. In fact, I didn't go anywhere where signal was not all 5 bars in strenght.

I use the 3 mifi thingy, 5GB a month for £8. Can connect upto three devices to it like a wireless router.

I cannot find your 5GB for £8 (only £15.99 with monthly contratc)
can you give me details please?
many thanks

Another option is a new dongle and 12 month/12GB pack just over £80 all in.

For me working away for a bit, then back at home, then away it works out better than the £10 or £15 per month on PAYG as I have the data available be it a day a week, or a month.

The new dongle is also faster than my MiFi so use it with a Zoom travel router. The Zoom is like the MiFi but without a built-in 3g, it has a USB port which accepts most dongles on the market, a hard wired Ethernet port, and built-in WiFi. Ethernet port can be configured as the WAN port or LAN port very flexible.

Its not an advertised deal. I bought the dongle for around £43 getting about £23 back through quidco. The original contract was 5GB a month for £15. After a month i called 3 customer services and asked for a better deal, With barely a murmur they chopped it to £7.50 a month for the same 5GB. Its now £8 with the vat increase.

Alternatively, as you already have a 3 dongle, buy up a load of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THREE-SIM-CAR..._Home_Phones_Sim_Cards_CV&hash=item4157cf922a

They are preloaded with 3GB and last for 3 months if the data isnt used. Put the 1st one in your dongle and when its used up, throw it away and load in another. Ive bought them before for another dongle i have and its alot chepaer than getting a £10 top up from the shop.

Over the last 3 years, i have found 3mobile offers the best coverage for me, as i often work miles from towns/cities.

Currently I'm in the middle of a field in Wiltshire using a 3mobile MiFi dongle, which is running at:

I can also connect using my iphone4 in Tethering which gives me:
