Myself and best mate are off on tour next week. I have a full Autocom set-up with PMR etc. My mate has phone sat nav only, just visual, and is thinking of getting a Bluetooth headset. Not looking to break the bank but obviously wants an effective solution. He's looking at the Interphone f2 and in our discussion last night he might be tempted by a Tribe radio. Will these work effectively together? The f2 is touted as the 'City Pack' does this imply that it won't work on the open road at speed :nenau

He doesn't do pillions. In fact his bike has no pillion seat (Ducati 996), so that limitation isn't an issue.

The other issue is charging on the road. He has a accessory socket fitted. Are both the above devices charged via mini USB or is it something more 'gourmet'? Hoping that they both use the same car charger lead...

He wanted to split af4 set between us, however, I'm more than happy with my wired, and fully bike powered, comms rig.

Hi,

As well as canvassing valuable experience from this site, you could call the ever-helpful Sam at Chainspeed.

Well my mate bought his kit off Chainspeed yesterday. He bought an f4 but no Tribe. Dunno who he thinks he's going to talk to :nenau However, I have a plan and will be speaking to Sam this morning.

Well, plan almost confounded by a rather stupid (IMHO) oversight by Interphone. Why would they produce (OK, it's probably made by a third party) a device that would be ideal for motorcycle touring yet only provide a means of recharging it from the mains :blast There is no 12v power cord in the accessory line-up. I asked Sam if it had a Mini USB jack but he said no, it looks propriety.

Sam investigated and phoned back. It's in fact a micro USB requiring 5 volts and 400mA. This should sort it. By doing the work Sam got the business :thumb2

This info might be useful for others out there wondering the same thing.

Tribe has worked for me...

Bought a Tribe radio from Sam at Chainspeed a couple of weeks ago and tried it with a Scala G4 Bluetooth headset. We got bike to bike comms to work once we got it set up. I was using PMR through my Atocom and the other rider was recieving and talking back via the Scala and Tribe.

Hope this helps - Vid on Youtube

I have a hard-wired Autocom and regular PMR with the Bikers Oracle antenna myself. We will have the ferry crossing to set the Tribe up. My mate won't know about his gift until then (unless he reads this of course...). I'll take a battery for mine and the rubber antenna to aid this process.

I've watched your video, yes. What was the range like in the real world? There's a fair amount of crackling/distortion I can hear from your pupil's Tx.

I had no trouble setting the pmr channel on the Tribe. We did not set the Tribe up properly as we didn't set the vox right. Apparantly you need to shout when they first pair as this then sets the volume. Still tweaking it. But last weekend was out on the Somme with my set up pmr Icom to Kenwood 3/4 mile.

Good luck.
