Invite for ride to Air ambulance station. 27 May

Lovely 230 mile round trip for me to visit this place and see the crew in action …. Thanks Mark for organising this and for providing a very informative insight into how not only the chopper works but also details of how it’s managed , crewed etc etc
Thank you

Great effort coming guys, good to meet you.

You got home before me :thumb

And on way back Tim and I stopped off in Tideswell, amazingly the cafes were shut.....

However Tim was not to be denied.......

Pleasure, I think I managed to slip in a bit of exceptionally boring aerodynamics too;

Back at ya !
Yes, that bit went "whoosh".
Home for 6.45 after a wander back to Sheffield via as many back roads in Staffordshire and of course the Peak District.

What an absolutely brilliant day and thanks to Guru Gora for disorganising. The whole day went like clockwork and the weather.....has to be THE best of the year so far. Not far off 200 miles for me.
Great to meet everyone and say a big Ta to the crew Mark, they were brilliant.

Im back on duty there soon so Ill take a cake in.

Ive written to the chief medical bloke to say thanks, hopefully that will filter down to Chris and Fay the duty Paramedics today (y)

Thanks Mark. What a brill day. Pity we couldn't stay longer. All this came about due to a chance meeting of fellow bikers at Tollerton. Hopefully we will meet up again soon.

Hiya D and L

Great to see you both again.

Yes indeed I shall pop along to whatever meets I can get too.

You did fine, we left shorty after you so all worked out nicely.

Always welcome over here, bin the aircraft next time, more chance to eat cake (y)

What an excellent day, thank you Guru Mark – top man.
And a total pleasure to meet fellow Tossers all of whom were such thoroughly nice chaps and chapesses.

You're very welcome, good to have you there, any time.

Pic 1. That's a lovely Guzzi there :augie

Pic 2. The only aircraft in the world that's more complicated behind the pilots seats

Pic 3. "Right, I want us to all hold hands, the words are Ring a Ring of Roses........ready...."

Pic 4.

Me ;

"Right Lorraine, are you now quite happy with how the tail rotor compensates for torque reaction in the low speed flight envelope"

Lorraine;

" Will someone please get this professional bore away from me".

Well done Mark, that looked like a cracking day out.

Hiya

Thanks , yes things are always better in great weather :)

If there is interest I’ll happily do it again.

Good thing about here is the access you can get.

Being a small airfield we are able to get great access to the aircraft …… even though they had 4 shouts whilst we were there.

The group shot was taken in a rush, crew already on board and pilot about to pull the trigger on engine 1, busy day but worked out nicely for a visit

A few people asked me about nights. Id said Id get back to you.......

Short answer is yes,

Some units are qualified, some not.

Its expensive, and clearly there is more risk involved, but yes we can land at night.

If by day you're looking at a tennis court ish size to land in; by night you're looking at a tennis court with a normal distance fence around it.

Your field of view is about 40 deg as opposed to the normal 190 ish, and the world is green :)

It looks like this.............

The paramedics get trained to a high level to act as co pilot in the front, here's me passing on my knowledge whilst teaching one of the guys from Hampshire and IOW AA, I was done in 15 seconds :D

Unlike the Apache which has a monocular sight over one eye, we wear goggles.

Pros and cons to each, gun to my head.........goggles please.

Just to close the loop as it were……

My first time back since visit so I’ve handed over the very generous donation.

A rear K60 scout was tempting but my honesty got in the way :)

Thanks again.
