Hi All, at this weekends` bash at Ripley Clive from Gloster `popped up` to have a chat to me about an idea he has come up with and has kindly said that if I wanted I could actually make them for forum members.

Sadly we missed each other by minutes (he would have spotted me - I was the one with the chicken hat on :D) but he did send me some images of what he has come up with.

If there is anyone interested enough in a not unreasonable quantity I would be happy to a) make some and b) make sure that Clive gets some of the proceeds :comfort

His idea is simply attaching a box to the INSIDE of the pannier - it looks like a good idea and looks like it will hold much more than the tool tubes (which are very brill in themselves anyway and I certainly aint knocking them!).

So, Fellow Tossers, let me know and thanks to all who found the time to say hello to me this wekend.

Mark

I saw this 'in the flesh' at lumb farm and it looks like a good use of redundant space between the offside pannier frame ... a prefect storage place for extra tools etc.:thumb

Vario`s

Not sure about the Vario`s mate - the ali GSA panniers tend to be stouter what with the frame and all of that - I am not sure that the Vario`s could take it has they are suspened, as you know, from the rear tray brackets.

Mark, looks a great idea, but would it be possible to find a way to attach it to the pannier frames as i for one dont always ride with panniers fitted but would like to carry tools/puncture repair all of the time.:thumb2
Things are never simple:blast

Spot on...

Great idea....look good...
Some where safe for my hair gel..
I'd be interested,,,and i think my twin would be..???costs??
Cheers..:beerjug:

Looks like a very good idea. How is it attached to the pannier and does it need some sort of sealant material to keep out the spray that will get thrown up?

Answers!

Hi all, answers and progress so far............. :)

Ferret - Not sure about that mate, its how it might be anchored as currently we are looking at using the insdie of the pannier as the mounting point. :thumb2

Bennysdad - I don`t think it can be `waterproofed` mate. The area is subject to sh*tloads of spray in the wet - something akin to jetwashing - so I think that it would be mildly `water resistant` but I would never bullsh*t (unlike your regular salesman) to get a sale so I think that somehow water would get in. I would expect it. What Clive said he did was to put stuff in it which could withstand water, like tools, within a waterproof tool roll.

Regarding progress about 3 or 4 people have expressed an interest so I`ll monitor that to see if we get enough numbers together to actually make a start on the development.

As an aside I am off to BMW Park Lane next week (yep, `THE` Park Lane) to deliver a BBQ (oh yeah baby) and I may at the same time purchase a 2010 GSA (I intend to keep my 06 GS because I love it deeply :drool). This should help me develop parts much more easier for the GSA lads :clap

Keep it shiny side up.................

I spoke to Clive, and thought this was a cracking idea.

I even took some more photos.

I'm very interested - especially if made by Mark as his stuff always very high quality.

Mark - I can pop over from Halifax if you need a GSA to look at!!

Ta

Thanks for the vote of confidence TOAD and it was good to meet you at Ripley (by the way, I woke up with my chicken hat on the next morning )

Ta for the offer and I may take you up on it but most of the time I need a bike 24/7 as I tend to get `itchy feet` at stupid o'clock and go and do some work on it. Also, I cannot rush a development job as there is even more chance of me scewing it up!

Once again thanks but I think the purchase of my very own GSA is well overdue anyway and I think it will please some forum members that I can now more consider the GSA for my love and attention.

Actually, I will try to post an image of the BBQ I have just made for BMW Park Lane............. :drool

As an aside............

Not really in theme with the thread (so I hope I don`t get shot) apart from indicating the quality (hopefully) of any inward facing pannier box I may come up with but here is the BBQ BMW Park Lane has ordered from me!

:drool

Dimensions

Ferret, using your panniers as a kinda template can you send me some dimensions of the box based on the images so i have got something to fool around with?

You can email me direct on [email protected] if you want

Mark
are you after the sizes of the inside of the pannier rails ince the pannier is fitted? , i know ime a bit of a numpty but i dont have the toolbox to measure?

Don`t sweat it mate

Don`t worry, Clive has recently sent me the sizes but I may still need your help to try what I make against your panniers.

Could you send me some images showing the face which the box would attach to on [email protected]

ta.
