Hi Geeks, this could just as easily be posted as a rant, I'm so frustrated at not being able to print on any of the 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and MacBook despite printing very happily on 3 Windows computers.

The printer is an HP Photosmart 5510 and is AirPrint compatible. It used to work ok with the Apple things but it won't now. I have changed my router to a ZyXEL 1202 but that's the only difference.

I have iTunes installed on my Windows desktop PC, also the Bonjour Printer Wizard but this cannot see the printer despite being able to print from the PC. I think the problem might be this Bonjour thing as it caused trouble on the MacBook a couple of years ago (before I changed the router). So far my Googling has thrown up suggestions about packets and broadcasting but I'm not good enough at computers to understand any of it. Can anyone help?:nenau

I don't know if 'Bonjour' on a Mac is the same as on a PC, but in my world, it's MALWARE and if you do a Googly on it, you will find lots of ways of getting rid of it.....It's an insidious, hijacking bit of software that will cause no end of problems. (AS I said, on a PC)

it's something else on a mac :)

Old worldview there. Let's see if it gets his network running without having to fuck about learning ip networking.

Things have moved on since '98 :beerjug: XP was better but '7 is almost perfect in that regard

I've not had to frig about with ANY settings on my 7 ultimate install.....I just connect a device, say what I want it to be allowed access to and BISHBOSHBANG :) it works.

Blackberry pad or phone, various Apple thingies that the kids have, visiting mates' phones or whatever, a couple of wifi cameras, a printer, no probs.....instant controlled access :)

Should have said, I am on Windows 7. I could be wrong, in fact it happens quite often, but Bonjour seems to be something that works in the background as a means of sending packets (a load of ones and zeros?) to the printer.

Multicast is set to igmpv3 and IGMP snooping is disabled, though I don't have a clue what any of that means. My googling found that same as Ianf's but it hasn't helped me get much further.

I did try temporarily disabling the router firewall, then my new iPad could see the printer for a few seconds but it quickly disappeared.

Been looking into the router configuration and IPv6 ULA Address Type is set to "Manual"

Does anyone else have Windows and Apple devices communicating wirelessly to the same printer? It doesn't sound too much to ask.

Win7, ubuntu, android and iOS all working fine here wirelessly to a HP printer. I reckon it's your new router causing the communication issues.

Yes, I thought it was the router and with some help from ZyXEL I managed to download and install the firmware update, my firmware was about 3 years out of date despite only buying the router a few weeks ago. All seems to be working OK now. Along the way I learned that a .rar file is a different type of zip file, though the RAR software will also unzip a .zip file.

Don't know what I'm going to do for the rest of the week now!!:thumb2

Good Stuff... Thanks for the update, I checked in last night and wasn't sure where to go next.
