Got a nav 6 for GPS which is great if you know where you want to go. However if you don't know and are touring you need a map.Does anybody use ipad as a map ? Does it use all of your data , can you get a signal when off the beaten track and is it worth it . If so what map do you use, google or Michelin or whatever and do you download an area or do you use it live.

Regards Steve

I have to refer to a map on a regular basis in work and use Navmii on my iPad and iPhone. It is a satnav that you download the maps you want so no internet usage when out and about. It is free but has adverts popping up, but cheap enough to get rid of the adverts.

Pocket Earth app does all the above with no advertising and is free .....

If you use google maps you can download each country onto your phone/ipad in the “my maps” section.
When you open the map you are not using any data or do not need a gps signal. It works a treat.
I travel all over the glode with work and use it everywhere .

The downloaded map lasts about 6 months and then you just download it again.
All free and up to date :)

Where are you going?

Maps.me covers France and Spain (I think). You download regions.

I used to have Michelin maps on ipad, but it doesn’t run now.

I don’t really get using electronic maps for route planning, I much prefer paper, when going electronic I have used MapsMe, but you can end up using goat tracks. I just think you get a better sense of scale using paper.
My devices of choice are iPhone and kindle and I leave the iPad at home.

I drive 45,000 miles plus a year (not on the bike!) in the uk, europe and the usa.
I have tried loads of satnavs (inbuilt, garmin, tomtom etc) and a lot of navigation software (waze, i-go etc).
For me the best one is google maps.
Always up to date, use it on any phone type, included live traffic, and as said above, maps can be downloaded free so still work if your Signal is lost.
Waze is pretty good as well - very simple but accurate.
Hope that helps.
