My mates 3G iphone failed three times and the forth is starting to switch off randomly. Make sure you buy a one with warranty, even if it's a second.

I am on my 3rd iPhone...... the previous 2 have randomly decided to stop making calls.

Just had shocking customer service from Apple re: a broken Time Capsule too, so they are not my favorite organisation at this point.

Not surprising, it's been said already Apple set the prices and suppliers can't discount them. :augie

That's against the law!

Although you do think that Apple think they are above the law .. like many multi billion pound businesses around the world

How so? What law? Apple choose who sell their products and the terms under which they are sold. Works for the consumer in the end, check out Apple used prices compared to the competition.

You want one, you buy it on their terms. Simple!

Manufacturers are not allowed to set RRP ... it's the LAW!

Perhaps as Apple also sell the iphone they are allowed to set the RRP to prevent being undersold themselves

maybe apple just set the margin really tight so the RRP comes out near identical across telcos?

maybe orange just looked at o2 and thought they could charge the same (nearly. i did read you can save 7p over a 2 year deal)?

i suspect apple just stop supplying stock if retailers don't toe the line though.

Again, what law? They don't set a Recommended Retail Price they set the Retail Price.

Recommended Retail Price is just that, recommended, so in fact they are not setting the RRP.

THE LAW!!!

My understanding is that the manufacturer can set the price they sell to the retailer BUT not determine the price a retailer sells to the consumer. OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

You might want to confirm your understanding in relation to the Apple business model, but then again you may have wasted enough time today rifling through the OFT's website :augie

Just wrote a note to OFT .. hope it works!

Don't hold your breath

I know .. but if I didn't write in then the chances would have definitely be zero. Now it may be 0.000000000000000000000000000001% likely to happen and that is infinitely better than zero :D

So what is the fixed retail price that Apple have stuck on this phone?

Depends on the plan and model. But the prices from both Orange and O2 are identical.

From FREE for a two year £75 per month contract for the 3GS 16GB

to £274.23 for 18 months £30 per month contract for the 3GS 32GB.

So they both could be discounting the retail price Apple has set by the same amount? :augie
