Iphone 4 - how to move cursor?

When typing emails, texts and I make a spelling error I can place the cursor in the general place where I want to correct the error but never in the exact place - I have to delete backwards until I get to where I need to be but then have to re-type what I have just deleted.

Is there a better/simpler way?

Try touching you finger to the screen and leave it there for a moment, you should get a magnifyer which you move around and position the cursor to the preceise point.

Nearly had to resort to asking a teenager upstairs!
