any good ? anyone prefer their 3gs
I have 3GS the latest update for this phone gives it a bit more speed & seems to run smoother,
My mate has the 4 & had problems already poor signal & updated had to do a complete re sett.
my advice is it is ment to of been improved but i think the 3GS is spot on the 4 needs more time to settle it & get rid of problems

I have a 3gs running os4, scrolling on mine is jumpy and i'm sure the apps take longer to open now, would go back to the original os for 3gs if it wasnt such a pain to do
coming from a 3G. after 2+ weeks with an iphone 4, this is what i think:
likes
screen resolution.
speed.
the camera.
battery life seems very good.
iOS4 is good, and runs very well.
dislikes
screen doesn't like daylight. hard to find a setting that works in both low and
bright lighting.
the shape. the old one looked nicer, felt nicer, and was lighter.
the cost
i can reproduce the antenna problem if i try hard to cup the phone with my hands. never had a problem in normal use. i ordered mine with the apple "bumper", as i like to have a case, and that was the only one available at the time.
i might have experienced the proximity sensor issue once. not sure.
i think the performance upgrade will become more important as apps get developed with the iphone4 in mind.
i'm happy as i came from a 3G, and that's a big step up in performance. might be different if i'd upgraded from a 3GS
shame the only 3GS available, new, now, is the measly 8GB model. no use to me and still huge bucks.

Upgraded from the "original" iPhone 2G.
So far I like it a lot.
I have the antenna issue only clenching it and covering completely the gap on the metal antennas.
Pros: speed, 3G (of course coming from 2G), the camera is AMAZING but the mic is even better (keep in mind it's a Phone, not a dedicated audio/video device). I did a lot of videos at concerts with flip cameras and never had this audio:

I mean, the Flip I had used to clip the audio track a lot rendering it useless.
The screen is amazing, I love reading articles saved on Instapaper while travelling on the tube or sitting on the throne.
Cons: limited data plan (I'm with O2), looks more fragile compared to the iPhone 2G. Mine survived several flights of stairs, me launching it against a wall, I once left it on the roof of the car and drove away until seeing it fly in the middle of the road when I stopped at the first traffic light... etc...
I'm quite sure this one won't survive that kind of use.

Pleased with mine & I came from a jail broken 3G. I can reproduce the antenna problem but find it easy to work with, even though I don't use a bumper - I've always preferred slip cases.

Spirit is the easiest jailbreak tool to use, & takes about 30secs after you download the software, but it depends what firmware & OS version your running. It certainly works on firmware 05.12.01 & OS 3.1.2/3.1.3 & jail broke my iPad & stepson's 3GS iPhone. My 3G was done with redsn0w or blackra1n, I can't remember which one worked...

I've just bought a 3gs as I didn't feel like the 4 until all the problems have been sorted, my 3gs runs on os4, it's three weeks old, it's Uk, It's Vodafone and it's 32gb

AFAIK apple stopped selling the 3GS with more memory when the iphone 4 came out, which would have been c. three weeks ago ish.

I have the 32G version . I had no signal problem
, but I put the IPhone4 strait in a Gear 4 plastic case. The software update will only solve the true reading of the signal , apparently at the moment when you see 5 barrs you only have 3/4.
I still get used to the touch typing ( not as fast as on the BB ). It will not sink to your PC if you have USB1
. Overall I am pleased with the phone , but sometimes I miss my BB Bold.

Dead link...? But you're right - it was reported last night that jailbreak & carrier unlock are both working & will probably be released once Apple release their software fix for the antenna issue.

I just remembered another of my favoured jailbreak apps is wifi sync. This means you don't even need to plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer to sync with iTunes. How cool is that...?

Off topic........but.................why do some apps. only run on jailbroken phones
From an app. writers point of view isn't there more money to be made if it runs on all iPhones

i'd guess most of those apps are rejects from the apple app store, or the developers never bothered to get them submitted in the first place
