I have the BMW cradle for my iPhone and it used to work fine with my iPhone 13 pro but it is a bit flaky with my new iPhone 16 Max. I suspect that the cameras on the back are raising it slightly from the plate and messing with the connection. Does anyone else have the same issue or have any ideas. Charging my phone as I ride is one of the real perks of the modern era. I used to ride, especially in the winter with my phone connected to a powerbank in my pocket because the cold would kill the battery. I was never particularly comfortable with cable hanging out of my pocket. I was so relieved when I got the cradle but now this seems like a backward step.

I used to have the BMW connected ride cradle with wireless charging - working with an iphone 12 pro max.

TBH the wireless charge never quite kept up with the battery drain from the GPS navigation running google maps - phone would be flat after 3 hours max.

Abandoned as a bad job & went Chigee - so far seems much better.

the max phones are too big, just like the samsung ultras.

A bad piece of engineering from zee Jormans

Cooked a Samsung note on my connected cradle. Gave up, went with quadlock wireless.

But, as much as I am fan of smart phone navigation apps, (real one, like tomtom used with myrouteapp) it is important to be honest.
Phones have issues. Heat when charging. Water in charging port. Extra heat charging with wireless charger. Etc….sun, rain, weather are kind, it all works great. If hot, sunny and direct sunlight, chances are there will be issues.

I have to admit that going forward I am hedging my bets. Just bought a Zumo xt2 (fingers crossed as Garmin does some weird shit of its own) and smartphone on quadlock.
Personally, I think we are being ripped off by tomtom and garmin. But I also see the drawbacks with a smartphone, which when on tour you could be depending on in an emergency..so you dont want it with a completely flat battery or..just packed in because it has been fried by the charger.
As to the BMW charger and the app, its a thumbs down from me.

I see someone on here is selling a connect cradle because his 16 pro max doesn’t fit into it
I have adjusted the cradle so the phone fits well within the design parameters. Before I write it off as bad job and look for another solution i would like to try to get it working. The 13 worked fine and didnt drain the battery, it kept up fine, so I am thinking it is just the connectivity and gap between the plate and the back of the phone. I just cant think how it could make better contact.

I used to have a wireless quadlock on another bike but it failed after a few months. After a lot of back and forth with videos to quadlock support they agreed to send me a new one. I had moved on by then. I have it installed on another bike but I am a bit shy of relying on it... The powerbank in the pocket was just so reliable, except when I got off and forgot about it...

I do have a Garmin Montana but I find the UI for the mapping apps on the smart is so good it is hard to use it the Garmin for everyday use. Also, its an entirely different mount again and more money... i just want the smartphone to work as promised..

The Chigee looks great but i just cant see myself using it for everyday use. How do you find it? Do you take it off each time? is it just for bigger trips?
