Hi all,

Just wanted to spread the word if anyone is considering getting their iPhone 6 or any other iPhone unlocked to STAY AWAY from certain sites that claim they can have the phone factory unlocked using the IMEI number.

I recently used www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk and the website is looking very professional indeed. Fact is that it is a scam. They have been reported in the past for Fraud and had i done my homework i probably would have seen that. How they are still allowed to operate is beyond me...They are on trusted review site and all over Faceache etc etc but apparently the reviews (which are all awesome) are all fake. I basically got had for 39.99 in two payments but people have been had for more. You 'pre order' your unlock. Get an email saying its ready to be unlocked and you must pay a further fee. Next email says your phone is unlocked and please connect to iTunes blah blah...It does not work...imagine my surprise when the phone number did not work and that i never got any response whatsoever. I commented on their FB page negatively of course...and within minutes the comments were deleted and i was reported for making false comments haha..

Anyway the only real way to get it unlocked is to pay the relatively small amount to the network that it is locked to. Takes a few days maybe more but worth it and works.

Check out the list below and be sure to stay away from these too.....Just thought i would let fellow tossers know ...We have better things to be spending our cash on ..:thumb2

Yes you just need to ask your operator to unlock and they will if you are out of contract. I was caught myself with this scam. Never buy an unlocked iPhone because only the registerd owner can request it. JJH

That's really helpful as my daughter would like my old iPhone when it's updated.

Thanks and here's a bump to spread the word

I don't understand that

Surely if only the genuine registered owner can request an unlock, it means the phone probably hasn't been stolen.....and if it's already been unlocked by the original owner, it stays unlocked, so why not buy it :nenau

Sorry I see my mistake here. Never buy a locked iPhone with the intention of getting it unlocked. Not my first mistake. Sorry. JJH

Yes. And they saw you coming.

:D

Yeah Cheers for that...!! Me and a lot of other people that can't afford to lose that money.

Anyway for info if anyone interested or don't know...(sorry if you sucking eggs) There is a difference with Sim Free and Unlocked also. A phone from Carphone Warehouse for example is Sim Free. This means you can put any Sim in however it will lock to the Network of the First Sim put in. Unlocked is unlocked...Any Sim. (Stating the obvious) Some Networks (3 For example) supply their phones already unlocked.

In my case i thought (thought being the mother of all F### Ups) that i had an unlocked phone. I bought it sealed from someone whilst in UK. I used my UK sim while i was there as you would do....But realised it was then locked when i tried my Finnish Sim. Big DOH!

So as that nice guy above said :) I tried to unlock and they seen me coming.

IT IS possible to get the phone unlocked using the IMEI which is sent to Apple Servers to be mark as unlocked. Once they done what they need to do it is a case of connecting to iTunes to complete process.

The idea of the thread is to warn fellow tossers that should you be in the situation that i found myself in (probably not that stupid) then please be aware that there are a LOT of scammers claiming to unlock. The best practice as we said is to go to the network you are on and they WILL do it for a fee. For the record my is now unlocked by 3 (first sim i put in phone). I just had to register my Pay as you go Sim i use on their website with my details. See the link below for a bit more info. :-)

Swapped iPhones with my daughter in Dubai as her Voda UK contract phone was locked to Voda and she could not get it unlocked in Dubai.
- cost me £10 to unlock mine - they (voda) went to Apple for the code and did it next day over the network with no fuss.
Phone worked first time fired up on my daughters Du Sim in UAE.
Now I have her old 5 I will get that unlocked here so she can have it back when she comes over later in the year.
I did try an independent but they quoted £60 and said the phone would need to be sent to Apple - operator seems the best option always.
