Hi being old and sort of skint my daughter has given me an old iPhone 3 with tomtom Nav app on it. My question is what is the cheapest way to link the voice overs with a bluetooth headset. My budget sorry to say is around 25£ Garmin whatsits are I'm afraid out of the price windows along with senna??? Headset boom mike's. Plus for so many years I never needed techy stuff. I used a paper map thingy, but going through Manchester last Friday whoa I'm getting old at 68. Thanks guys for anyhelp

Don't forget you'll also need to charge the phone on the move as the battery won't last very long.

Cheapest way would be to use in ear headphones wired to the phone, there may be some cheap Bluetooth headsets available, try eBay.

Avoid going to Machester again, ever. As you are 68, that shouldn't be difficult.

PS Stick an earpiece in the phone. Don't forget to put the phone into a waterproof bag (it rains a lot to the west of the Pennines) or you'll be asking your daughter for a replacement.

Hi Wapping
well Manchester wasn't bad but the m6 m62 was on Thursday night. family commitments and all that. Actually found a small single bud earphone that does work. Also bought a waterproof case for bars. Wired in a socket so power to iPhone no prob.By the way any of you guys who work around Manchester well I take my hat off to you if that's what you have to put up with to get home. I thought I was badly done on my trips up to work in Aberdeenshire my only prob was just that white stuff

+1 or you can buy a set of bluetooth w in ear speakers like the Sony MW600. That would do the trick

The iPhone 3 had emasculated bluetooth that worked with very few head sets. Use a wire in the car and don't try to use it on a bike.

Of course those plonkers at Brake would have all phones, all radios, all eating, all sat navs and all passengers banned from cars because they distract the driver.

Hi guys yes will have to try something else as the earbud type just pull out when I put helmet on. I might try the sticky speaker pads that glue into helmet. It's no great deal to be honest only used it (gps that is) last Scottish trip to get me to a list of b and bs I had routed in. I am not really a techie spendy type and with the iPhone having two navigation apps thought that will do. By the way one of the apps is by Navigon and I really like it.

Yep tried them all just cannot see the point though of going down the garmin bike types. You can get a lot of petrol for £300+.Used to use an old tomtom that I soldered a earphone socket it worked fine with my old very loose helmet. Now got good fitting shark it strips out my ear buds putting it on. Actually b*****it I'm just going to not bother did loads of trips to south coast when young didn't have any gps and hey we got where we wanted to go

ps sorry guys on my high horse was in a bike emporium this afternoon and looking at the video cams £300 I got one from argos for a few quid and it's not high tech but hey it uses standard sd cards battery life two hours full hd chest harness waterproof case bar bracket. Hey another £200 for fuel that's what I call biking, riding the blooming thing not looking at fancy knickables draped on it. Sorry for rant ride safe this weekend everyone.

Im quite happy with a visual only sat nag. I don't need my hand holding at every turn so no need worry about the (often distracting) voice commands.

So (leaving aside your vague recollections of south coast adventures in your youth) you have ruled out ever going to Manchester again.

I tried that for a couple if years before we bought a scala G4 twin headset. I used to find it quite dangerous sometimes trying to follow directions without the voice, now with instructions I only have to glance at the sat nav briefly and follow voice directions much easier, thus keeping my concentration on the road ahead instead of staring at the sat nav,
I didn't realise how much time I spent looking at the nav instead of the road untill I got the headset fitted.

No wapping, going down to Manchester for family get together December 30th. Hopefully m6 will not be stuffed up like last time .Least my memory I'm 68 is still good enough to find Prestbury. Off to show brother in the Scottish Borders new ish bike. He is a golfer so probably not at all interested but he makes a good dinner/tea and we get on well. Hey families are good aren't they?!!

ps at great expense sending my cheque to become a subscribed member. Do I get a badgy farkly thing? pps got the turatec ? badges off the bike.

No, you just elevate yourself above freeloading pond life.... And Rolf.

Well done with the envelope and stamp. You'll go from red to blue in a twinkling. :thumby:
