I'm at a friends in Castalla, Spain and we want to watch the BBC Iplayer, a short time ago some said that this was possible by using a 'Proxy server' when abroad, could someone explain it in a bit more detail (keep it simple people) and possibly point us in the right direction of a free proxy server.

Never got a free proxy server to work consistently and I thing the Beeb include known free proxy's in their list so it still assumes you're not in country.
HideIP works. It'll cost you about $30 a year. Cheap really and reliable

A proxy works by requesting information on your behalf i.e. the request to IPlayer appears to come from a UK based computer rather than your own.

Proxies such as DaveProxy have restricted access to IPlayer as it eats too much bandwidth.
If you manage to find a working (free) proxy that allows Iplayer access then section 14 of this will tell you some info on how to set up IE

I have a VPN tunnel to a UK provider to give me access to live UK TV and I-player ( I live in Belgium)
This gives me access to www.tvcatchup.com and www.zattoo.com as well as I-player and the other channel's equivalents.
