I'm at a friends in Castalla, Spain and we want to watch the BBC Iplayer, a short time ago some said that this was possible by using a 'Proxy server' when abroad, could someone explain it in a bit more detail (keep it simple people) and possibly point us in the right direction of a free proxy server.

Never got a free proxy server to work consistently and I thing the Beeb include known free proxy's in their list so it still assumes you're not in country.

HideIP works. It'll cost you about $30 a year. Cheap really and reliable:Motomartin

A proxy works by requesting information on your behalf i.e. the request to IPlayer appears to come from a UK based computer rather than your own.

Have you seen this thread?

Proxies such as DaveProxy have restricted access to IPlayer as it eats too much bandwidth.

If you manage to find a working (free) proxy that allows Iplayer access then section 14 of this will tell you some info on how to set up IE

Follow my link in that thread, Dickie- if you need any help setting it up then post to the newsgroup via google. Hopefully the OP, John Higgins will pick it up and answer your query.

How To Watch Abroad BBC iPlayer SkyPlayer ITV Player Channel 4OD Hulu.com ABC.com

Watch BBC iPlayer Abroad I was abroad and wanted to catch up on Top Gear on the BBC iPlayer. I learnt how to create a tunnel connection to a UK proxy. All this means is your computer tricks BBC iPlayer into thinking you are in the UK. I found the quality just as good as if I connected via broadband at home. So, I put what I know into a step by step video guide. To see a demo and learn about how to create a proxy connection, I'd encourage you to visit Watch BBC iPlayer Abroad
