Hi folks,

I`ve been promised an ipod thingy from Mrs BigLee for crimbo, I must have been a good boy this year :augie , and it`s the 80gb Video one. I believe that has been superceeded by the 160 gb now
What I`d like to know is what competition is there out in ipod land? I don`t think the ipod has a radio, has an inbuilt battery & have heard itunes can cause probs when loaded onto my pc & isn`t compatible with windows media player :nenau
I also considered some of those doozer in ear speakers that kill noise from the outside while I listen to tunes on the bike :hide I know how some people feel about this idea :augie so don`t start another rant! :D

Any ideas to the ipod competition will be seriously considered :thumb2

Cheers

Lee

Ipod is great for music but crap at video unless you like squinting at the tiny screen

Mmm, I don`t think I`ll be sitting there watching a full length film on it but I rather like the amount of info on the screen about what albums, tracks etc that can be chosen rather than a single scrolling message that my current mp3 player has

Mines a 4gb ipod nano and holds all my photos and as much music as I need :thumb2

I Pod

I have had quite a few i pods and I actually quite like them. Mine is just a 30 Gb but it does me, I use it for movies on the plane and I store all my music that I need. There have been a few issues with them, I personally don't like the i tunes thing as they ake you buy the music but you cannot transfer it too anything else. I have also had mine freezeup on a few occasions, but al in all it has been good. I also have a cheeper pair of in ear sony headphones and I hear my music fine even when I am tramping on. So I would buy an another one.

The display on the 80 Gb iPod has the same as all the other (large) iPods but you also get a small picture of the album cover - if you've downloaded the artwork in iTunes.

It's useful as a portable hard disc for storing images/video files when you're traveling. I wouldn't bother watching video on it.

I have a couple of them 20gb and a 60gb. Found them problem free, all the accessories in the world are there for them. Play all the file formats you'll even need, get larger capacity batteries from ebay for a song if you feel the need. I'm more of a sound user than vid to be fair, but they do it for me. Got a Griffen Air Click for remote control on the bike too - so you keep the Pod in your pocket out of harm's way.

All that said, I have a little solid-state 1gig Creative I use for running and other sport (can use the Pod to run, but it's a bit big) and that's excellent too, with a FM radio.

Can also recommend a Boosteroo - gives you nice sound quality and some extra volume in you need it for unresponsive speakers in yer lid - like what the Bassmonsters are.

i occasionally use my 60GB to play video, hanging around on ferries etc. just about ok. bit of a faff getting anything into .mp4 format though.

brilliant bit of kit :thumb2

My 8GB Nano works great and I've found ITunes to work fine on my PC - but then I'm running Vista :aidan

Archos - absolutely brilliant - I have a 604 80gb. They now do a 605 which is wifi enabled and you van get an even bigger hard drive:thumb2:thumb2

SanDisk sansa e280...........

.......... is what I use. I bought mine from ebay from a seller in the USA because European versions have the FM radio disabled, (why???), and it is MUCH cheaper even when postage, etc. is taken into consideration. Mine is the 8Gb version and it has a slot for a 2Gb micro SD card if you want to give it an increase in capacity. :thumb

Windows XP...no probs. Have had 60G vid since it came out and had no probs whatsoever. Only got the video one as it has a longer battery life...never watch vids though, just listen to music.

Another one for the Archos vote. I have the 605 and the 705. Both work excellant :bounce1

I have got an 8gb nano with a pair of ultimate ear monitors, awesome is the only way I can describe the sound experience although you are a little bit remote if you have the volume too high and despite what others might say I think that is the same in the car with the stereo up really loud

The nano works perfectly, (with windows xp and then an I-mac when I upgraded--thats another thread) the guys at ultimat ear were brilliant when I found the monitors a little uncomfortable after a few hours wear, they just sorted it out pdq.

What I am saying is Ipod with monitors is brilliant, if your eyes are good enough for the vids then get a big screen one otherwise get any one, you wont regret it.

For the record I have a 12gs with a tour x.

...its got to be the new I POD Touch - When u see it / feel it, you will def want it....
