Got my daughter a Creative Labs MP3 for her birthday ,tons better than the i-pod,more battery life etc, all her pals are now dead jealous and are deserting the i-pod for these ones. Getting all eager to get myself one for the bike now.:D

Oddly, the Shuffle does not seem to be volume restricted like the other iPod's sold in the UK either.

Easy to volume 'uncap' a Euro Ipod.

Download a bit of software called GOPOD which re writes (in milliseconds) the firmware to allow player to be turned right up - brill for using with an autocom.

I bought two 1GB shuffles as a gift for two people at work ...still haven't got one for myself yet...but the 60GB iPod is fantastic anyway...I fitted the dension ice link in the car two weeks ago and it is excellent and I use it on the bike with my shure e5's...

Can the I Pod Shuffle play in non shuffle mode? It would annoy the tits off me if you cant choose the tracks you want to play...

I still swear by my Monolith - 512mb, good sound and well made....

Yes it will play in non shuffle mode...

Fanum the 60GB iPod can also store pics, and with a new usb connector from apple, you can download pics directly to the iPod from your camera and then when you get home and sync with your computer; auto download them...great storage device as well as for music....

Good links and its free. I can't believe the difference - just be careful the pod is turned right down the first time you use it after uncapping, it really can be VERY loud.....what a difference through autocom.

Mark,

Speaking on behalf of your ears, is this a good thing? Is the Increasing the noise levels to combat maybe earplugs meaning you are raising the noise well above to compensate for the (nominal 28db) noise reductions offered.

I've noticed with interest Autocoms approach to combatting the use of ear plugs for their systems is to pump more noise through. Sounds like a harmful approach to me (if you excuse the pun and the hijack) ;)

I use the RemoteRemote 2 http://www.engineeredaudio.com/products/remote2.html which uses radio frequency and not line of sight so I can store the pod away protected by the weather and still control the volume and tracks. Inevitably you put your helmet on after zipping everything up and the volume is either too high or too low.

Sold in the uk by essentialipod or ipodessentials at £40

I've just sent off my 40GB iPod to get a new battery fitted - promises about 20-30% better life than the standard....old one is done in anyway- lasting only an hour now...

a friend of mine with a 40gb ipod is a heavy user of it due to many weeks traveling on business.

after a year his battery life degraded to an hour..... he was told he could get the battery changed and what they actually did was change the complete unit (hear say). my chum remains a heavy user but keeps it on his docking station for power.

anyway where have you sent yours and whats the damage?

when i installed my new 'shuffle' ..... when offered the prompt 'do you want random?' i said yes.

since..... i have wanted to control what is down loaded when the shuffle is plugged in.

has anyone got an 'easy' for me...... how do you control what is down loaded from itunes onto the ipod shuffle?

Putting more noise in is not a good idea as you suggest Judge.

The way to go is to have custom plugs with speakers built in (monitors). The plugs block out the noise you don't want and the speakers put the noise you do want straight into your ear so you don't need to have it LOUD!

Autocom have cottoned on to this and have brought out part no 26/27 (for 5 and 7 pin systems) which lets you use your monitors with your Autocom although they go to enormous lengths to point out that this is for voice only as you need to be in full control of your vehicle at all times etc etc.

Most of the custom plug makers do monitors with varying quality of cables and there are some new ones out which use an air tube which will overcome problems of cable chafing or wearing where the earplug and helmet meet. As far as I'm aware these are only available from Green Leopard.

I don't know why everyone raves about the iPod (especially if you have to interface with a PC and not a Mac). I recently helped out a couple of people with them and after running iTunes, I'm more than conviinced that my 20GB iRiver knocks the spots off an iPod. Connect it to a USB2 port and it appears as an external drive to which you can drag and drop. It plays Windows media, mp3, wav without throwing a wobbly and you can use it as a data back up device too. Battery life is excess of 16 hours.

Look at the opposition first. Try before you buy!

Andy
