Is anybody running their GS1200 with iridium plugs?
I have an '06 12 with Remus + "Y-piece" and have just got the bike back after its annual service.
On pick-up the bike appeared sluggish and limited throttle response from what was a crisp and fast action before taking into dealership.
Needless to say the dealer was closed for weekend but when I took it out to show it to one of the most knowledgeable Beamer blokes in Bangkok he thoiught that moisture might have got on the plugs during its service and that I might be better served by running iridium plugs - Denso IXV-22 or NGK-DCPR8EIX.
Has anybody encountered a similar issue or is running iridiums with greater success or preference. Fuel out here can be mixed with gasahol becoming more prevelent.
Thanx

I'm using Denso Iridium IXU24's, 04 1200GS. http://www.globaldenso.com/cgi-bin/...+1200+GS&filename=maker16mc.csv&action=search

Thanks for the correct plug details.
Have you found any improvement using these plugs?
Cheers

The fuel consumption has dropped, so i can assume the plugs are more efficient, they may have contributed to a smoother all round feel to the motor, but i think boxers get smoother with more miles anyway, hope that helps.

If that sort of suggestion is "knowledgeable" then God forbid anyone out there ever gets a serious problem.

Plugs might be affected by moisture when cold or when p***ing down with rain, but there is no way that moisture could otherwiseaffect the way they work at operating temperature. Thats way above the temp at which any moisture would flash off. Much more likely that the dealer has made a Horlicks of servicing your bike.:rob

Quite right

Don't confuse the issue! If the bike was alright before and nwo you start changing things you will never know what went wrong!

Servicing Mishaps

Thanx Birdseye & Brian your advice concurs with my suspicions.

The fellow I consulted used to manage after sales service at a BMW dealership, before he left due to the shenanigans that go on out here. As the only english speaker he was always having to carry the can for others faults.
As the throttle response had rectified itself by the time I took the bike over to him, he thought that they might have jetwashed in a hurry to return it sort of "cleaned".
I am not entirely convinced that it was carried out the service/annual check properly, something my chum thinks it's possible due to a corporate day taking precedence.
I am seeing the new service manager tomorrow and will be grilling him.

My chum having ascertained that the throttle response appears OK now, but then went on to say that in his experience it is best to change plugs at 10K and that iriiums would make some difference when running on 95 petrol. But carry regular plugs for lesser grade fuels 91petrol or gasohol.

Thank for the response

Changing plugs

It is not in the service schedule for the 10,000 km service and I cannot imagine that there is any point at all in changing them. If it were necessary (or even desirable) it would show up on the computer check.

I bought some NGK Iridium plugs for my 07 GSA12 from spark-plugs.co.uk

The listed plugs were DCPR8EIX as mentioned above, but when I took them to my dealer to fit during annual service (to save buying plug clap puller) they wouldn't fit them claiming them to be not the correct plugs for the bike.

BMW specify dual electrode plugs but these are single electrode.

But I read elsewhere that these plugs are better for the GS/A ?

Any ideas ?

I fitted the NGK DCPR8EIX plugs myself, and have seen a small boost in fuel consumption, ( from a consistent 49-52 mpg on the same journey to 51-56 mpg, on the same journey )...:clap
