I am 62 now and have been riding since 1977. I have had tons of bikes with my favourite so far being the S1000XR.

Recently though, I have finally scratched an itch and bought my first ever GS and am loving it so far. It is a 2014 R1200GS TE with 1 owner and 17,000 miles on it. I have done a few things like final drive spline re-grease and new diff oil, engine oil and filter etc, and am about to do an air filter and plug change. On all my previous bikes I have gone for Iridium spark plugs, however, I can't seem to find information on Iridium ones for mine.

From the NGK part finder web site - as I understand it, my original plugs are LMAR8D-J 93444 but there is no mention of an Iridium option. On another site I found a code for the Adventure model - same year and later 1250 models with a code of LMAR8AI-10 94319

Is there a particular reason why I can't fit Iridium to mine ? Has anyone fitted them to a 2014 -2017 bike and if so which ones were they ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) thank you.

You will want to look up NGK LMAR8AI-8 92288. https://www.ngk.com/ngk-92288-lmar8ai-8-laser-iridium-spark-plug
I've installed well over 200 sets of these in 1200/1250 engines.

These are less expensive than the LMAR8AI-10 94319 that are specified for the 1250 ShiftHead.

The 8 in the middle of the string is the heat range with 8 being lower than 10 and 12 being the hottest in the series.

The - (dash) number at the end denotes the factory set gap, so I just buy the -8 (which is gapped to 0.80mm) and use it straight away for the 1200 WetHead and then open the gap to 1.0mm making it a -10 for use in the R1250 series of engines.
