Just wondering does anyone reckon this is an idea?

With all the grief lads get when selling their bikes (prices vs UK) and the ease of selling stuff "locally", I thought it might be an idea. I have a few bits to sell and it would be much handier to sell to someone locally as shipping bigger items is a killer.

Even just to create a subforum in the Ireland section where people can create a thread and drop a link to a thread they may have posted in the proper B&S section.

Yep, gets my vote. Postage from the UK is criminal in any case.....

At least on here we're directly hitting the target market. If I listed some stuff on biker.ie I'd get the piss taken...

Rather than just piping up and saying '+1 good idea', could someone explain WHY this is needed?

Why is there a need to have a separate section (yet another one? c'mon!!)

Are you saying that you want to limit your potential sales audience to the Irish contingent?

I've no doubt that if any of you saw somethin ion the 'rest of the UK' FS&W section (which is what we'd end up with, by implication) you'd want to buy it :nenau

Maximise your sales audience, don't try cutting yourself off.....postage isn't exactly massive is it, and if you're bothered about the postage to Wales, Scotland or England being more than on your own little patch of mud, just ask for the actual postage to the place you're sending something to rather than adding a flat figure :nenau
Why don't you ask Civil what he thinks about only being able to sell his panniers over there??

PS I accept that when selling a bike, you have importation taxes (or whatever it is that makes a big price differential when selling an Irish bike into the UK or vice versa)


That's not a problem though, and there have been many bikes that have changed hands to or from Ireland.....if your tax thing makes a difference, just make that clear in your ad- people on both sides of the water know what the score is and at the end of the day, will make their mind up if they want the bike even with the price differences due to tax :blast

The whole thing smacks of provincialism to me, and I can't see it being of any benefit to you (or us over on the mainland ;) )

But hey, don't let that stop you from getting on the bandwagon....after all, it's easier to just type '+1' rather than actually think about it, isn't it :rolleyes:


(and yes, I'm in a bloody bad mood tonight :mad:)

I think that the present system works pretty well to be honest.

If you are selling a bike make sure to put Ireland in the title. You will always get numptys who don't know about VRT etc posting in the thread that they think the bike is too dear, but a quick PM to Tuned or me will sort that out. After all, that is what we are here for. :)

The postage thing is a real sore point I know, bit it is the postal services who set the rates, not UK Tossers who you might be buying bits and pieces from. And, as many of you already know, there is an easy way round the exorbitant post charges if you have access to a Nordie address. Quite often delivery by truck can also be included at no extra charge. ;) :augie
 
yes we can!!!

the prices in Ireland are so diffrent that they need extre pricing in aftersale and this jus cause some slagging instead of selling in the buy/sell section.

same with any accesorries, shipping 40£, 25£ paid from and 35euro paid to UK
In some cases you'll need to take a 50% of your asking price to get some attention, otherwise you'll get slagging :)

I've bought two GPS's, a few Jackets and a HG suit in the FS&W, postage was about £20 -£30 so I agree it isn't a
massive issue there, my reason for liking the idea is purely for buying/selling bikes. With the UK bikes we have the VRT
to pay and when selling our bikes we are over-priced by comparison. For anything other than the bikes the FS&W does fine.

Would some kind of Sticky thread that we could link from the Irish section do ? What w00kie did with the Serows
worked well enough.

I certainly don't want the Irish section of the forum to become insular in any way.

Gary and I have always left "bike for sale" threads in the Ireland section sit for a week or so before moving them into the FS&W area. There's no reason why that can't continue to be the case.

With the amount of traffic in the Ireland section, if the bike hasn't had any interest in a week or so, then it's unlikely to sell here at all. I suppose that that if it's the right bike, at the right time, at the right price it will sell straight away but it's all very unpredictable.
