Was talking to a mate who works in PR media today here in London...
and he says the word on the grape vine is that Bob Geldof and Bono
are to orgainise a Live Aid gig in Ethiopia for the Irish State...
Also Robert Mugabe has said he will be handing out Trócaire box's
to Zimbabwean school kids to collect for the poor wee white babies

Ireland should leave the EURO and adopt the USD. It is seen by US corporates as the English speaking doorstep into Europe. The bailout plan from Europe is purely more crack for the addict. You can't solve debt with more debt. Radical thinking is required now.

Surely adopting an ever weakening currency would only increase the amount debt owed as the majority of this debt is in Euro's?
You can't go back to the Punt as it would have no backing. As per Greece, all existing contracts are EURO denominated and it would be an easier switch to USD than anything else. I'm not saying that its the solution only a solution. Going cap in hand to Germany when they will also have to deal with the other walking wounded ie Portugal, Spain, Greece, is fraught with issues. Germany is more likely to impose a harsh price for a bailout and to set an example to others.
I think its a tragic situation and I hope to God that it turns around. Hopefully work ethic and demographics will help.

The problem is the same as the dopy Brits over the water.
Lot of people have borrowed money to keep their '1st world' standards of living when in fact the countries are sliding towards 2nd/3rd world economies.
the brits made some money by ignoring and bending banking rules in the '90s but that has now been shown to be scam that it was.
To have money you need to sell something to someone.
I spend a lot of time selling arms in South America and you only need to see the number of hyundai out there to know who's on the up.
When did the Brits last make a good car ? or ship ? or miltiary Rifle ?
I read recently that 70% of Scots work for the govt, 50% of english and 60% of Welsh.
being paid to dig holes and then fill them in - all on borrowed money
and the stupid twats still claim to have won the war
it would be a laugh if it wasnt a cry as a famous German band sang in the '70s

bother with this section. I could see a major thread develop
from the "Dopey Brits" couple of words alone.
The unfortunate thing is that what your saying
is true {more or less } , not being anti Brit , taking the queens pence,
and being an "Irishman" it busts my balls to think that
we are all semi - reliant on the D.Bank or Germany , being the Major Euro
partner. I just wonder , at what price will we pay.

I believe things will get worse before they get better.
people will tighten their belts and work harder
those that are clever will find niches be able to fill them
the govt will have to actually help these people
I hate to mention the war, but there will be a war like spirit
red tape will be reduced
and at last a red gold and black tricolour will fly above Buckingham palace
(only joking)
Anyway - you dont need to worry - Ireland has been hard up many times but has always been a great place to be.
My uncle crash landed his Messerschmitt 110 in Wicklow and was treated very well.
I remember he always toasted the Irish on 24th November with a guinness and Tullamore in rememberance.
(he was smuggled out and back through Spain - went on to destroy over 20 bombers in a nightfigher G4 version)

Ireland's difficulty is England's disaster.
If you lot go belly up then the ripples or tsunami more like, will hit the banks over here. They all have big holdings in AIB , Bank of Ireland etc. There won't be much humour over here when the markets open on Monday.

what really pisses me off is the fact that the Australians are set to become one of the richest countries in the world.
I never minded the Japanese or Chinese being wealthy but the thought of all those revolting Aussies having money.............
Just imagine if Hitler had decided to use Australia for 'Lebensraum' instead of Russia.
No would have cared and Germany would now be set to be the richest Empire ever known.

I've just had a troll through baron von wankhovens more recent posts and I reckon we're dealing with a walter mitty charachter here. Arms dealer ( scum of the earth in my opinion by the way ) with loads of male relatives in the Luftwaffe, the SS and a granduncle who claimed to have planted a German flag on the falkland islands in 1914. If only we all had such romantic lives.
