Looking at a GS 1100 on e-bay wth 72,000 miles on the clock.looks like it may go cheap ,but he also says it isn`t his type of bike so may offer him my Raptor,or should i keep looking.

It seems standard without any accessories. It`s white which is unusual as ihaven`t seen many. It`s a 1994 bike.

I think ...

... early = plastic tank, which not everyone likes :augie

Is plastic a problem .I already have two bikes with plastic tanks and the only down side for me is that i can`t use a magnetic tank bag.

Mileage means nothing (or very little). Condition is everything. 75K with full service and oil changes every 5K will run forever. 75k without an oil change in the last 20k will be a liability. I ran a Honda pan european to 217k before i finally gave up on the bike and sold it on, it did a further 35k before it dropped a valve. Some guys on here have bikes with mileage well over 100k and still running

My 94,plastic tank 1100 has waaaayyyy over 300k on it,so they must be crap.

75k just run in nicley.Under £2000 just buy it:thumb

I've got a 94 1100 that runs like a dream. It's mainly how it's been maintained rather than it's age that determins how reliable a gs1100 will be.

Also it was white when i got it, now much better in black :thumb2

i have a 94 plastic tank gs with 60 k miles no issues at all.:blagblah

Dont clean it !

Just sold my 1996 1100 at 73k and have every faith the new owner will get plenty more miles with minimum grief.

My experience is that the only chocolate component is the gearbox mine lost 3rd after about 60k. Nice exchange unit from the chaps in 'Uddersfield and everything tickety-boo ever since.

Soft power delivery is good for commuting though cagers in queues but also good for back roads touring. I was the support bike for some London-Paris cyclists two years back and the old girl carried my kit and both the guys up hill and down dale without missing a beat.

A nice patina (not Mrs W's opinion ) of oil & crud protected the bike from the worst of winter. On the odd occasion she got a clean ( bike not the wife) everything underneath found to be in good nick, if not necessarily concours condition.

If you believe the servicing and mechanicals are sound then go for it. 150k is a minimum not an ambition for these bikes.
