My van needs to come off the road for some time. To correct an issue I entrusted to a garage due to my usual trusted workshops being full up. Big mistake ! Being a mobile mechanic, this is a bit of a nightmare at the start of the season.

So I'm looking for a smallish affordable van to use in the interim. Under £5000 really. I'm not expecting anything special. Just not a tatty heap. Or anything with issues or "easy fixes" .. Just a reliable workhorse. Ready for work. Something honest. That's all. Long or new MOT preferable.

It's got to lug a hefty workshop in the back. So it needs a decent motor. 2.0 Vivaro, Expert, Dispatch, Trafic would be ideal. But I'll consider anything reliable and not too scruffy. I test drove a 1.6 HDI partner today. That felt very asthmatic. But it would probably do.

I've been talking to a lot of people on Ebay, Autotrader etc. It's an Albanian Meat market.. So I thought I'd ask here.

Cheers, Ted

There are a few Trafic/Vivaro sized vans around within your budget but expect moon mileage or "issues". My 16 plate Trafic got written off after I was rear ended, 250k miles and a rattly engine and got paid out £4700, which I readily accepted. It was probably worth £3k, so hopefully you can get something better for 5k. Mine was the 1.6 twin turbo and it was plenty grunty enough even loaded with parcels - much better than the 24 plate Transit Custom I've got now.

We’ll be moving our metallic black Vivaro Sportive soon.
Not the prettiest BUT not long had a brand new engine and clutch(£4k), new suspension, new steering gear, new brembo discs all round, new handbrake cables, new rear calipers and pads last week, it’s fully insulated and lined, interior lights as it’s been the OH’s surf/day van.
Long mot. The only advisory was paint/corrosion on the towbar which has been stripped and recoated last week.
Front tyres are brand new Falken winters and the rears are 7mm matching. Matching spare never been used.
Like I said it’s not pretty with marks but they’re a galvanised body so not real rust just paint.
Seats are spotless and there’s a spotless second twin seat that was going in the rear.
She’s just bought a motorhome so this is only going to sit there as a just in case.
