I was wondering why the new wasserboxer engine looked somehow familiar then it came to me.

The Beemer exhausts curve forwards to ape the older engines and the Honda has four pots, but there is a certain similarity in the engine profile. Both are water cooled with inlet ports on top and exhausts from the bottom.

Same as the K75/100 series of bikes then. :augie

If you flipped both bikes upside down (turn your lappy over or stand on your head, whatever plays your tune) they are both similar in so much as the wheels will be facing upwards. Proof then that BMW modelled their new GS on the Wing, and Honda modelled the Wing on the A65 Lightning and BSA modelled the A65 :blagblah:blagblah:blagblah.

Obviously the bikes are different (Duh) and of course its never done to compare a 1970's slug to a state of the art modern bike, but regardless the engine similarities are there.

But I'm commenting about the cylinder shapes and the vertical inlet & outlet. They are stunningly similar.

I have ordered a 2013gs so hope it goes better than a wing:flag

I see where you're coming from and I agree. It's probably the 'way it has to be' if you have flat, water cooled cylinders...engineers coming to the same conclusion...What do they do in the car world ?....:nenau

Trawling back (too many) years I remember the original Honda GL 1000 used the Civic car engine of the day, presumably with different gearbox but also a dry clutch.

The Beemer exhausts curve forwards to ape the older engines.

Probably more to do with exhaust header length and exhaust scavenging than trying to look like the old bike.

The Honda's horn is in the same place as the BMW Roundel. Obviously a direct copy of Honda's design :augie:augie:augie

And don't forget, the S1000RRRRRr is a direct copy of Suzuki's GSXR1000 :blast
