I've got a Quest that 3-4 years old. I ordered a software upgrade from Garmin, thinking it was, naively, free. Anyway I got it and uploaded to CD to my PC and now it's saying I need to unlock it for $80 to use it properly. I was just wondering if it's actually worth the money. I don't have any problems with my old mapping for what I use it for.
Cheers
You've answered your own question......if what you have causes you no problems, then no, its not worth updating.
You run the risk of significantly slowing down the quest for one thing, as software tends to get bloatier and more complicated, which the humble yet brilliant Q1 has problems dealing with.
As the map tiles get more information in them, the maps you can load get fewer.....not a prob if you're only using it in the UK for example, but go on tour with it and the limited 243 (iirc) mb memory suddenly looks a lot smaller.
I've tried several upgrades on my Q1, and have binned them.......I'm currently running with CN6 and Morocco topo on it, and that's fine for all of mainland Britain and the run down to and around Morocco (Maroc topo is only 32 mb!)
So, No, don't bother, it's not worth it IMO
There, that's £40 of beer tokens I've just saved you
