Podger

You didn't say you wanted to go Dover / Calais, you just asked about ferry prices, you said LAST year you went Dover/Calais but didn't tell us what your plans were for this year.

So yes it is you !!!

JIMB ...........What !!!

My Previous:I'm off to the Ardenne in a group next month and have been told that the price is now circa £130 ( by the organiser) .......and that is with the MCN /Bike magazine......has the price gone up dramatically or has someone got it wrong ??...

OK , I'd like to bottom this out , but on the Dover /Calais route.

Two of us have booked direct with P & O,14 days ago , using the MCN /Bike Discount code, via the phone , and been quoted £105.00 for a bike and Rider, in May , in and out in a week, crossing at the same time.

Yesterday another member of the same party , matching all the former criteria got quoted and paid £75.00.

So travelling to Spain not a lot of help really

I was planning a day trip for October 2nd to take in the WW2 blockhouses, upto March 31st the return ferry fare with P&O was £23 for bike and two. This morning when I got off me arse to book it had gone up to £33.20. So it might very well depend on when you book!

Most companies have offers to book early, then they have your cash paying towards their overdrafts a lot longer than if they had the same fares all year..... Cynical? Moi?

I wonder what happene dinto the "cartel" investigation that was supposed to be going on into why they all charge the same.....

BTW Podger - try Norfolk Line..... they may be cheaper. We have a group from my other club going end of May for 10 days for £49 return bike and rider - https://travel.norfolkline.com/passenger/default.asp. I'm going Shuttle for £56 for 9 days away!

Last July I paid £350 for bike, pillion, outside cabin + meals on the Hull Rotterdam boat. This July they want £470 for inside cabin and no meals??????.

I`m floating down to Harwich for the Hook of Holland service = £320 and a pleasant ride down through my favourite counties (avoiding all motorways and dual carriageways)

Podger it may be to do with when you book.
Check out this thread.
Cheers Dick
Dick, Yes it is based upon supply and demand, there is a such a disparity in the prices my group has paid travelling Dover/Calais at the same time , we'll never get caught like this again anyway !!;)

Just booked the ferries for me and me bruv for September from Portsmouth to Bilbao and return from Cherbourg to Portsmouth.
P&O say if you book on the net it will reduce the cost by 2%, big deal. Cost on the net £500+, just rang their booking desk and told them exactly what we wanted and wait for it >>>

Price to you sir £310 for both bikes and accomodation return. Bit of a diifference there

17th May 3 riders, 3 bikes 4 berth cabin out and return on fast afternoon boat (10 days) £488. (cabin each makes it £540)thats Harwich to Hook

I booked a day return on the tunnel last year then turned up and bought a single in Calais even better if you have rellies or mates in France use their address. They reserve the right to charge you if you do not return same day but you would be very unlucky. Heading for Spain do Portsmouth Le Harve overnight and stay in Poitier plenty of cheap hotels near Futurescope. San Sebastian is a beautiful place if you are down that way too.
