Is it my arse or the seat?

OK, this may sound daft, but....I have a 2010 GSA, now I thought that this being a long distance adventure bike, that the seat might be quite comfortable. After about 50 miles mine is not, I need to move about trying to get comfortable.

Is it me or have others found this?

I see that there are a few (expensive) aftermarket options, are they worth it and anyone know which are best???

There is no "best" seat. It's which type/make suits your arse.

I tried everything available and the corbin suits me ( sargeants suit others) - did 17 hours in the saddle and ended up in toromlinos without any undue effects, plus a 30 hour escapade doing an end to end.

They are expensive but i look on it as hiring the seat. You sell it on when you get rid or change the bike.

Well bought a Sargent seat and found its definately not my arse!!!!

Bite the bullet and get a Sargent Best thing I have bought for the bike so far

I use an Airhawk in fact I leave it on the bike all the time now. I remove it from the bike and use it as a pillow when camping and of course if you sell your bike you can transfer the Airhawk to your next one

What if the poster doesn't have a sargent shaped arse, will you give him his money back ???

As "nice and fat" mentioned, the airhawk seems to please lots of riders, and as he also mentioned, you have the benefit of transfering it from bike to bike, plus it's a lot cheaper than a specific make/model seat.

Airhawk for me as well on long trips/touring

Can manage on the standard seat for most day rides though, I think the standard seat beds in after a while or you simply get used to it.

If money no object go for the aftermarket types, but as Steptoe says airhawk or a bit of sheep skin seems to be the one to go for.

Me personally, I got mine rebuilt and recovered by a seat builder in the Toon, both front and back for £120.

Also does bondage gear

I tried all sorts with my GSA seat - Sargent, fleece etc etc.
Turned out all I need was patience and perseverance.
After a few long hauls my cute little tush soon toughened up and now I can easily do a tankfull without undue stress.

Give it a while before you start forking out money.

One good (and cheap) tip - get undies that don't have seams running across the buttocks.

Sargent seat are very good but cost wise take a look at a Melvin Hunter and get your seat a gel pad, also a very good option

500 miles on the std seat was enough to convince me I needed to change it
not cheap but my bum thinks it was worth every penny

Thanks guys, you have put my mind at rest, (if not my arse) seems I am not the only sufferer. Lots of good ideas including getting a new arse but I'll have to get a quote for that.
Melvin Hunter looks good I'll get in touch and see what his prices are like.

I can also vouch for AirHawk, seven hours in the saddle up to Glasgow and no aches or pains at all.

And as mentioned you can just move it onto your next bike.

panicked about my seat after a few hundred miles and bought a sargent. tried to convince myself it as better but it was giving me lower back ache that I didn't get with the standard so sent it back after few days. now 7000 miles in 5 months and the old hands tale seems to be true that my ass has adjusted to the standard seat or something but no probs now. suggest you persevere for a while. If you have the leg length try high setting at front low at back.

Suspension, fine tuning gets rid of that pain on the tail!1 & quarter turns on the bottom,10 clicks at the top, works for my low seat option.

I've gone off the idea.I have had a cold shower and beaten myself with a bible wrapped in barbed wire,dipped in holy water!
