Is it Schuberth or is it me ?

I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered the same problem as me with Schuberth sizing.

I've always bought my helmets in size L. Having recently bought a C3 size L, I went on tour and after about 1 1/2 hours of wearing the lid I felt very uncomfortable, with pressure down the centre of my skull and the back of my head. :blast

I modified the lining just to get me through the holiday.

My Shark Evoline and old Caberg were both size L and fitted fine.

Is it a size issue with Schuberth or just a cranial issue with me ?

I get that with a new Schuberth too, I think the foam they use distorts more slowly than does the Arai version.

ah the 'schuberth dent'...this is because ze Germans have rounder heads than us.

Its Schuberth, not you mate.

I recently went for a new C3 size large after trying on various models and sizes. It felt great initially but I then found after around half an hour of riding it would become increasingly painful around the left side of my forehead.

I put this down to the lid being new, but it persisted. Maybe it just needs longer to take a bit of shape but I decided to try and sort something myself as I was off to Germany for a week and didn't want to endure this the whole time.

I identified the area that was causing the pressure and rather then cutting into the helmet body I simply compacted it down a bit leaving a wee bit extra room. This seems to have fettled it and I'm now happy with the lid. Its got some great features but ultimately these mean nowt if its a pain in the arse to wear! :nenau

Yeah, it's definitely a pain.

I ended up cutting out the uppermost band that runs across the top from front to back, but still feel as though the back of my head's being squeezed.

Seemed fine in the shop and is OK for the first hour, but after that not too good.

I've ordered a new internal lining, and once it's fitted I'm selling the lid ( at a loss :eek ). Bit of an expensive mistake ! :blast

I see you're from the same neck of the woods as me. You didn't buy from custom lids per chance? They are a great shop but wondering if they had a dodgy batch.

Or in the terms of bmw salesmen everywhere maybe "They all do that sir"....

Yeah, bought it from Neil at Custom Lids.

We were on "the hill" when I watched my wife take off her AGV without un-doing the chin strap !

Straight into Custom Lids, had her head measured and bought 2 C3's and comms for our tour of Scotland, saying "nah, it's alright, I know my head size", I can be such an arsehole at times !!

Cost a blooming fortune, which wouldn't be so bad if mine fitted.

When were you over in Germany ? Hope you don't mind me asking but my brother in-law was there just a couple of weeks ago and had a great time.

I don't know if schuberth is the same, but with Arais most of the shells are the same size with the internals change the sizing. Rather than selling up and buying another, why don't you see if the dealer could help with the internal alterations?

What Simon said, maybe some new internals might sort you out Q? I did this on an Arai viper GT and it made a massive difference. Especially as you have the posh lids with comms installed.

I went across to Germany on 24/8 for a week. We did Hull-Rotterdam ferry then down to the Mosel area, Ernst, Cochem and Nurburgring area. 8 of us went in total and had a great trip, timed to coincide with the Cochem wine festival which was great fun. Plus we scored for cracking weather which was a bonus!

It was my first time across there and if you haven't been I'd definitely recommend it, the roads are really good and the place is much more biker aware / friendly.

Good idea but the next size up has a different shell size, needs a larger comms collar too.

I tried to order a different sized interior lining, but was informed that only smaller sizes will fit inside my shell.

I'm a buggered numpty

Oh dear! Well if you're sure it won't improve in time you haven't got much choice I suppose. Maybe good ol custom lids could help you out with an exchange or trade in type scenario given your extravagant initial purchase?

Shy bairns get nowt etc etc.......

Q,

Nope not me, although there were eight of us on various bikes: My GSA, Bmw S1000RR, Aprillia RSV 1000, Ducati Monster, Yamaha R1, Kawasaki Z750, Ktm RC8, Suzuki SV650.

I also bumped into Dave H of this parish & his missus in our hotel in Ernst. He's got a very nice tricked up GSA too!

Ah to be back on the road again....!!

I've had this problem. Found it was that part of the circular lining that goes around your forehead. In my helmet it had ridden up a little. As soon as I released it from the velcro and lowered it a bit the problem went away.

tom

Ha ha, my discomfort was across the top of my head, when I removed that band it was then the back of my head feeling as though it was being squeezed.

But thank you for the tip, I'll try that out over the weekend and I'll let you know if it's any better.

We could just all have weird shaped heads you know!

Cheers,
