Is it worth fitting 50w HID's rather than 35w in Hella FF50's

As per the title, I'm going to fit a set of auxilliary lights to my 1150, the FF50's get a very good review. I'm planning on converting them to HID's and see there's the option of 50w or 35w.

Now obviously the 50's are brighter, but I'm wondering how much difference I might see in a driving light that's as small as the FF50.

I currently have a 35w HID in the dip beam on my bike with a standard halogen in the main beam. I've considered swapping to 50w hids in dip and main but thought the FF50's with HID's might be a better option for punching the light further down the road. Last week, riding unlit country roads made me realise that even with a HID dip beam I want more light than that and the halogen main beam is currently giving and hidding the main beam probably wouldn't be as effective as a pair of HID driving lights, but I'd appreciate any better informed opinion.

just 50w h i d the low/high beam, its effective enough on the 1150,it definatly goes far enough

I can't speak about the 1150's but on my 1200 I have ended up with 50 watt HID's on Dip&Main and 35 watts on the Aux Lights. I have fitted a pair of Hella FF50's as well but have opted to keep them away from HID, instead fitting Ring Xenon Max bulbs. I didn't want to HID the spots as I really don't like the delay when you turn them on cold. I really like the set up now - I get instant light with the Hella's and a few seconds later the Main HID warms up and fills all the gaps nicely.

Worth it or not?

You haven't stated what type of FF50 you are buying.
If foglights, they are pointless anyway, and all you get is lights which annoy & blind every road user you meet, without getting a light you can see anything with.
If, on the other hand, you fit driving lights, going by the 50w kits I bought from Les Wassel, and compared to outer 33 watt driving lights I already have, they are well worth having.

HIDs

hey guys, i am also thinking of gettin the FF50 converted.

I have since upgraded my dipped and main beams to 50w hid, cost £40 for the kit to do both, shipped from a company on ebay called vvme

The ballasts are the thicker type but for the money you can't go wrong. The difference compared to the 35w hid is significant.

Still planning on getting some additional spots for the winter country lanes I ride and will probably do the conversion before next winter.
